Aging as a Loss of Goal‐Directedness: An Evolutionary Simulation and Analysis Unifying Regeneration with Anatomical Rejuvenation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The paper proposes that the root cause of aging is the loss of anatomical goal‐directedness after development. Using evolutionary neural cellular automata simulations, the authors show that after the organism has reached its developmental homeostatic setpoint (the adult morphology), the absence of target state to pursue leads to a drifting anatomical ...

Regulating Pores and Carbonyl Groups of Biomass‐Derived Hard Carbon for Enhanced Sodium Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sulfuric acid‐mediated hydrothermal carbonization for biomass‐derived hard carbon exhibits tailored pore orifices, along with the formation of abundant small‐sized closed pores and carbonyl groups localized at pore peripheries, thereby increasing the efficiency for sodium ions storage.

High‐Performance Electrochemical Adhesives Enabled by Perfluorinated Sulfonic‐Acid Ionomers with Precise Adhesion Control and Long‐Term Switchability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrochemical adhesion provides stable, long‐term adhesion without continuous power input after electro‐programming, enabling applications that require durable and controllable adhesion, such as biomedical patches, structural health monitoring sensors, and aerospace devices. Herein, we demonstrate high‐performance electrochemical adhesives based on a

Dynamic Mosaicity Modulates Ion Transport in Stimuli‐Responsive Liquid Crystal Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Thermotropic ionic liquid crystals provide a tunable platform for dimensionally‐controlled soft electrolytes, where anisotropy, nanoconfinement, and dynamic mosaicity govern ion transport behavior. In situ and operando analyses reveal a direct correlation between dynamic mosaicity and mesoscopic conductivity.

Constructing Stable Sub/Surface Structure to Boost Superior Cyclabilities of Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Rich Cathode

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐modification strategy combining gradient Al/B co‐doping and a robust Al5BO9 surface coating in this work enables synergistic bulk and surface stabilization in single‐crystalline LiNi0.90Co0.05Mn0.05O2 for lithium‐ion batteries. The engineered cathode exhibits 89.6% capacity retention over 1000 cycles in pouch full cells, among the best ...

Order–Disorder Phase Stabilization by Pressure‐Induced Charge Transfer Enhances the Ferroelectric Photovoltaic Effect in Multiferroic BaFe4O7

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pressure‐driven charge transfer in multiferroic BaFe4O7 induces Fe valence disproportionation and structural distortion, drastically narrowing the bandgap and enhancing ferroelectric polarization. This synergistic optimization boosts photocurrent 2.5‐fold and is retained upon decompression, offering a promising strategy to overcome the ferroelectric ...
