Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics: Evolution Equations [PDF]

open access: possible, 2001
Our general purpose is to propose a theory which goes beyond the classical formulation of irreversible thermodynamics (CIT). This is achieved by enlarging the space of basic independent variables through the introduction of non-equilibrium variables, such as the dissipative fluxes appearing in the balance equations of mass, momentum and energy.

Nonlinear and Hamiltonian extended irreversible thermodynamics

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1998
Our aim is to formulate hydrodynamicslike theory for the fluids for which the classical hydrodynamics fails (e.g., polymeric fluids). In addition, we limit ourselves in this paper to the fluids for which the enlarged set of classical hydrodynamic fields, enlarged by the fields of the extra stress tensor and the extra energy flux, represent a ...

Extended irreversible thermodynamics of liquid helium II

Physical Review B, 1993
In this work a macroscopic monofluid theory of liquid helium II, which is based on the extended irreversible thermodynamics, is formulated both in the presence and in the absence of dissipative phenomena. The work is a generalization of previous papers, where the extended thermodynamics of an ideal monoatomic fluid was applied to liquid helium II.
