Radiative transfer in the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1996
Summary: The thermodynamics of some non-equilibrium systems composed of matter and radiation is analysed. It is shown that a simple theory based on extended irreversible thermodynamics (EIT) provides a formulation which is consistent with the second law for situations in which the time variation of the radiative flux cannot be neglected.

Kinetic foundation of extended irreversible thermodynamics

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 2000
In this paper we investigate the kinetic foundation of extended irreversible thermodynamics via the moment method. First we consider the construct of the 1-particle distribution function f in terms of its moments by maximizing the entropy density function.

Symmetry transformations in extended irreversible thermodynamics

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 2001
In this paper we consider symmetry transformations that preserve the first law and the second law of thermodynamics, as well as the pseudo-Riemannian structure of the Legendre manifold defined in terms of the second derivative matrix of the entropy function in extended irreversible thermodynamics.

Extended irreversible thermodynamics for an Enskog gas

Journal of Molecular Structure: THEOCHEM, 1999
Abstract This paper presents the calculation of the transport coefficients appearing in the generalized entropy expression obtained from Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics, in the case of a monatomic moderately dense gas of hard spheres. Such an evaluation has been possible since the generalized constitutive equations for this system have already ...

Lyapounov functions in extended irreversible thermodynamics

Physics Letters A, 1982
Abstract Working in the context of extended irreversible thermodynamics, Lyapounov's functions, generalizing Glansdorff-Prigogine's δ 2 S expression, are formulated. New consequences are derived.

On the relationship between fluctuating irreversible thermodynamics and ?extended? irreversible thermodynamics

Journal of Statistical Physics, 1983
The relationship between fluctuating irreversible thermodynamics and theories of irreversible processes which include the thermodynamic fluxes as independent variables is explored. It is shown that the usual fluctuating linear theory of irreversible thermodynamics is a contraction of the extended theory.

Extended irreversible thermodynamics of heat conduction

European Journal of Physics, 1988
The authors present in a simple and illustrative way the main points of extended irreversible thermodynamics as applied to heat conduction. A comparison with kinetic theory is carried out.

From classical irreversible thermodynamics to extended thermodynamics

Acta Physica Hungarica, 1989
A brief outline of classical and extended irreversible thermodynamics is presented. Classical irreversible thermodynamics (CIT) is known as an active and fast developing field with numerous applications in continuum mechanics, chemistry and statistical mechanics. Its foundations and principal results are shortly commented.
