Extended irreversible thermodynamics: an unfinished task
Molecular Physics, 1995Linear irreversible thermodynamics (LIT) has been a very successful theory in describing irreversible phenomena occurring in systems whose states do not deviate appreciably from the equilibrium state, and is well founded both in kinetic theory and in statistical mechanics. The regime where these phenomena occur corresponds to very small wavenumbers and

Skin Effect from Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics Perspective
Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2010The skin effect is rediscussed from the point of view of extended irreversible thermodynamics. Within that framework, the current density flowing in a good conductor is assumed to relax in a finite...

A kinetic derivation of extended irreversible thermodynamics
Journal of Statistical Physics, 1982The basic postulates of the extended irreversible thermodynamics are derived from the kinetic model for a dilute monoatomic gas. Using the Grad 13-moment method to solve the full nonlinear Boltzmann equation for molecules conceived as soft spheres we obtain the microscopic expressions for the entropy flux, the entropy production, and the generalized ...

First, the special-relativistic Theory of Irreversible Processes for a multi-component fluid is formulated. It is based on (i) the balance equations of the particle number and the energy-momentum for the total system (i. e., the mixture of the components)

From classical irreversible thermodynamics to extended thermodynamics
Acta Physica Hungarica, 1989A brief outline of classical and extended irreversible thermodynamics is presented. Classical irreversible thermodynamics (CIT) is known as an active and fast developing field with numerous applications in continuum mechanics, chemistry and statistical mechanics. Its foundations and principal results are shortly commented.
