Source Evaluation of the External Exposure
2016This chapter is devoted to characterize main source terms of primary and secondary particles for external exposure. The assessment of neutron, photon and electron yield is detailed in usual physical process such as: fission reactions, ion interactions, bremsstrahlung on thick targets, induced activity in materials...

Exposure of a liquefied gas container to an external fire
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2005In liquefied gas, bulk-storage facilities and plants, the separation distances between storage tanks and between a tank and a line of adjoining property that can be built are governed by local regulations and/or codes (e.g. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 58, 2004).

Reconstruction of Internal and External Exposures of Fukushima Residents
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2016After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, the internal and external exposures of the residents have been very important issues and concerns. Fukushima prefectural government and Fukushima medical university have been performing the Fukushima Health Management Survey, and the external exposures of the residents have been estimated in the

Predicting laryngeal exposure in microlaryngoscopy: External validation of the laryngoscore
The Laryngoscope, 2018ObjectivesOptimal laryngeal exposure during transoral laryngeal surgery is fundamental. We aimed to evaluate the reliability of a recently proposed score (Laryngoscore) in predicting difficult laryngeal exposure (DLE) in an independent cohort of patients undergoing elective microlaryngoscopy.

Occupational Exposure to External Ionising Radiation in Poland, 1999
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2001In 1999 about 6208 radiation workers from 389 departments were monitored by CLOR in Poland. The distribution of annual personal doses shows that 85% of controlled workers received doses below the MDL (0.4 mSv) and about 97% controlled workers received doses below 5 mSv. Doses higher than 50 mSv were received by three operators of industrial radiography

External and internal antimony exposure in starter battery production
International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1995In the production of lead batteries two antimony compounds occur: in the casting of grids antimony trioxide (Sb2O3), and in the formation of lead plates stibine (SbH3). Seven workers from the grid-casting area and 14 workers from the formation area were examined with regard to the antimony concentration in blood (Sb-B) and urine (Sb-U).

The Changing External Exposure of Australian Industry
The Australian Economic Review, 2005This article examines changes in trade-related external exposure for Australian industry from 1990–91 to 2000–01, using primary and composite measures that capture the effects of exports, imports and imported inputs. The primary measures show that export market share for all exporting industries increased, but import market share increased at an equal ...

Application of mnSOM on Linking External Exposure to Internal Load
2009The internal load in humans caused by an external exposure is different in each person and mainly depends on metabolism. Using the recently proposed method of mnSOM we are able to describe the human metabolism using a functional module (linear or nonlinear) for each individual.mnSOM enables us to subdivide individuals into classes based on the ...

Carcinogenesis - A Synopsis of Human Experience With External Exposure in Medicine
Health Physics, 1988Studies in the 1980s of medically irradiated populations have increased our knowledge of radiation carcinogenesis. (1) Investigations of prenatal x-ray exposures, especially in twins, provide evidence that very low doses of ionizing radiation may cause cancer in humans.

Delayed Effects of External Radiation Exposure: A Brief History
Radiation Research, 1995Within months of Roentgen's discovery of X rays, severe adverse effects were reported, but not well publicized. As a result, over the next two decades, fluoroscope operators suffered lethal skin carcinomas. Later, case reports appeared concerning leukemia in radiation workers, and infants born with severe mental retardation after their mothers had been
