Attribution of the impacts of the 2008 flooding in Cedar Rapids (Iowa) to anthropogenic forcing
The City of Cedar Rapids was significantly affected by the June 2008 flood. However, little is known about the role anthropogenic warming during this event, not only in terms of hydrologic response but also of impacts.

Proprioception Is Robust under External Forces
Information from cutaneous, muscle and joint receptors is combined with efferent information to create a reliable percept of the configuration of our body (proprioception). We exposed the hand to several horizontal force fields to examine whether external forces influence this percept.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Characterizing Compound Inland Flooding Mechanisms and Risks in North America Under Climate Change
Compound inland flooding (CIF) arises from the concurrent interaction of multiple hydrometeorological drivers. In this study, we characterize key CIF events across North America, including two preconditioned events, rain‐on‐snow (ROS) and saturation ...

Energy evolution in time-dependent harmonic oscillator with arbitrary external forcing
The classical Hamiltonian system of time-dependent harmonic oscillator driven by the arbitrary external time-dependent force is considered. Exact analytical solution of the corresponding equations of motion is constructed in the framework of the ...

Four-phase patterns in forced oscillatory systems [PDF]
We investigate pattern formation in self-oscillating systems forced by an external periodic perturbation. Experimental observations and numerical studies of reaction-diffusion systems and an analysis of an amplitude equation are presented.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Coherent control of population transfer between communicating defects
Population transfer between two identical, communicating defects in a one-dimensional tight-binding lattice can be systematically controlled by external time-periodic forcing.

Subdiffusion in an external force field [PDF]
The phenomena of subdiffusion are widely observed in physical and biological systems. To investigate the effects of external potentials, say, harmonic potential, linear potential, and time dependent force, we study the subdiffusion described by subordinated Langevin equation with white Gaussian noise, or equivalently, by the single Langevin equation ...

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...
