Steady State Convergence Acceleration of the Generalized Lattice Boltzmann Equation with Forcing Term through Preconditioning

open access: yes, 2008
Several applications exist in which lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM) are used to compute stationary states of fluid motions, particularly those driven or modulated by external forces.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Attribution of the Increased Intensity of Upper‐Level Hadley Circulation Under Climate Change

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The upper‐level Hadley circulation is critical to the energy transport from tropical toward mid‐to‐high latitude regions. In this study, an index denoting the intensity of upper‐level Hadley circulation in Northern Hemisphere (Southern Hemisphere) is ...

Detecting an external influence on recent changes in oceanic oxygen using an optimal fingerprinting method [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Ocean deoxygenation has been observed in all major ocean basins over the past 50 yr. Although this signal is largely consistent with oxygen changes expected from anthropogenic climate change, the contribution of external forcing to recent deoxygenation ...

Kolmogorov equation in fully developed turbulence

open access: yes, 1998
The Kolmogorov equation with a forcing term is compared to experimental measurements, in low temperature helium gas, in a range of microscale Reynolds numbers $R_{\lambda}$ between 120 and 1200.

Steady state fluctuation relations for systems driven by an external random force [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We experimentally study the fluctuations of the work done by an external Gaussian random force on two different stochastic systems coupled to a thermal bath: a colloidal particle in an optical trap and an atomic force microscopy cantilever.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Nonlinear Analysis of Tropical Waves and Cyclogenesis Excited by Pressure Disturbance in Atmosphere

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The horizontal equations of motion for an inviscid homogeneous fluid under the influence of pressure disturbance and waves are applied to investigate the nonlinear process of solitary waves and cyclone genesis forced by a moving pressure disturbance in ...

Amplification of large-scale magnetic field in nonhelical magnetohydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2017
It is typically assumed that the kinetic and magnetic helicities play a crucial role in the growth of large-scale dynamo. In this paper we demonstrate that helicity is not essential for the amplification of large-scale magnetic field.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
