From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Time-series of monthly mean steric sea levels

open access: yes, 2015
This dataset with monthly mean sea levels complements the Global Tide and Surge Reanalysis (GTSR) dataset. The GTSR time-series do not includes variations in mean sea level driven by changes in water mass and water density.

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Extreme sea levels in the English Channel 1900 to 2006

open access: yes, 2009
Coastal populations are growing at a rapid pace and this is being accompanied by an increased investment in infrastructure at the coastal zone. Combined with this is the concern of enhanced coastal flooding due to rising sea levels and climate change ...

Sex Representation in US Stroke Clinical Trials: A Decade of Trends and Challenges

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Stroke remains a major cause of disability and mortality in the US, with significant sex‐based disparities, and females remain underrepresented in stroke clinical trials. We aimed to examine sex representation in US‐based stroke clinical trials, identify trial characteristics associated with higher female enrollment (≥ 50%), and ...

Estimating extreme sea levels combining systematic observed skew surges and historic record sea levels

open access: yes, 2021
International audienceThe estimation of the sea levels with a high return period is crucial for coastal planning and the assessment of coastal flooding risk. Coastal facilities are designed to very low probabilities of failure and hence the design values

Cracking the Code: Genotype–Phenotype Correlation Models in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Sarcoglycanopathies are among the most severe limb‐girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD), though milder presentations have been described. These diseases are primarily caused by missense variants, but the limited predictability of their effect on protein maturation, complex formation, and transport has hindered reliable genotype ...

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Sea-level change and storm surges in the context of climate change

open access: yes, 2000
This paper reviews the latest research in New Zealand surrounding the issues of sea-level rise and extreme sea levels in the context of global warming and variability in the Pacific-wide El Nino– Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

Interpreting century-scale changes in southern North Sea storm surge climate derived from coupled model simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper describes numerical experiments using a climate storm surge simulation system for the coast of the United Kingdom with a particular focus on the southern North Sea and the Thames estuary in southeastern England Time series of surges simulated ...
