ARGUMENTS FOR F-THEORY [PDF]

open access: yesModern Physics Letters A, 2006
After a brief review of string and M-theory we point out some deficiencies. Partly to rectify them, we present several arguments for "F-theory", enlarging spacetime to (2, 10) signature, following the original suggestion of C. Vafa. We introduce a suggestive supersymmetric 27-plet of particles, associated to the exceptional symmetric hermitian space ...

On singular fibres in F-theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2013
In this paper, we propose a connection between the field theory local model (Katz-Vafa field theory) and the type of singular fibre in flat crepant resolutions of elliptic Calabi-Yau fourfolds, a class of fourfolds considered by Esole and Yau. We review the analysis of degenerate fibres for models with gauge groups SU(5) and SO(10) in detail, and ...

Non-Abelian discrete gauge symmetries in F-theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The presence of non-Abelian discrete gauge symmetries in four-dimensional F-theory compactifications is investigated. Such symmetries are shown to arise from seven-brane configurations in genuine F-theory settings without a weak string coupling ...

Evidence for F-theory [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1996
We construct compact examples of D-manifolds for type IIB strings. The construction has a natural interpretation in terms of compactification of a 12 dimensional `F-theory'. We provide evidence for a more natural reformulation of type IIB theory in terms of F-theory.

F-theory at constant coupling [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1996
The subspace of the moduli space of F-theory on K3 over which the coupling remains constant develops new branches at special values of this coupling. These values correspond to fixed points under the SL(2,Z) duality group of the type IIB string. The branches contain points where K3 degenerates to orbifolds of the four-torus by Z_3,Z_4 and Z_6.

F-theory from fundamental five-branes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We describe the worldvolume for the bosonic sector of the lower-dimensional F-theory that embeds 4D, N=1 M-theory and the 3D Type II superstring. The worldvolume (5-brane) theory is that of a single 6D gauge 2-form X MN (σ P ) whose field strength is ...

Tate’s algorithm and F-theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2011
The "Tate forms" for elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds are reconsidered in order to determine their general validity. We point out that there were some implicit assumptions made in the original derivation of these "Tate forms" from the Tate algorithm.

Covariant formulation of f(Q) theory

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2022
In Symmetric Teleparallel General Relativity, gravity is attributed to the non-metricity. The so-called “coincident gauge” is usually taken in this theory so that the affine connection vanishes and the metric is the only fundamental variable.

Sparks as radioemitters

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2020
In the early experiments on radiocommunication, Hertz, Branly, Lodge, Marconi used as emitter a spark produced by a high electric tension. Why did this spark emit an electromagnetic radiation?
