Coupling carbon nanotube mechanics to a superconducting circuit

open access: yes, 2012
The quantum behaviour of mechanical resonators is a new and emerging field driven by recent experiments reaching the quantum ground state. The high frequency, small mass, and large quality-factor of carbon nanotube resonators make them attractive for ...

Breaking the Bottleneck in Limit of Detection of Surface Refractive Index Sensing by Harnessing Meta‐Waveguide Microring Resonators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mode splitting in meta‐waveguide microring resonators (MWMRs) effectively suppresses baseline drift and measurement noise while maintaining high refractive‐index sensitivity. This reflection‐induced mode splitting strategy enables quantitative detection of ultra‐weak surface perturbations and establishes MWMRs as a robust, drift‐immune platform for ...

Dual-frequency comb in fiber Fabry–Perot resonator

open access: yesAPL Photonics
This paper presents a novel approach to dual-frequency comb generation utilizing a single fiber Fabry–Perot resonator, advancing the implementation of these sources in fiber-based systems. Dual-comb applications such as spectroscopy, ranging, and imaging,

Tunable Cavity Optomechanics with Ultracold Atoms

open access: yes, 2010
We present an atom-chip-based realization of quantum cavity optomechanics with cold atoms localized within a Fabry-Perot cavity. Effective sub-wavelength positioning of the atomic ensemble allows for tuning the linear and quadratic optomechanical ...

Designing coupled-resonator optical waveguide delay lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We address the trade-offs among delay, loss, and bandwidth in the design of coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) delay lines. We begin by showing the convergence of the transfer matrix, tight-binding, and time domain formalisms in the theoretical ...

Impedance‐Matched High‐Overtone Thickness‐Shear Bulk Acoustic Resonators With Scalable Mode Volume

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bottom‐electrode‐free high‐overtone bulk acoustic resonator is achieved by lateral excitation of antisymmetric thickness‐shear modes on a lithium‐niobate‐on‐silicon platform. Planar electrode geometry eliminates conventional loading along the resonance path and confines acoustic energy within the electrode gap.

Quantum Dots for Biomedical Biosensing, NIR‐II Bioimaging, and Phototherapy: Materials Design, Signal Transduction, and Translational Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review outlines bottom‐up and biomimetic fabrication strategies of quantum dots, and highlights their emerging applications in biosensing, multimodal bioimaging, and intelligent cancer theranostics. It further discusses key translational barriers and future perspectives for advancing QD‐based nanomedicine toward clinical implementation.

Laser cooling of trapped ytterbium ions with an ultraviolet diode laser

open access: yes, 2005
We demonstrate an ultraviolet diode laser system for cooling of trapped ytterbium ions. The laser power and linewidth are comparable to previous systems based on resonant frequency doubling, but the system is simpler, more robust, and less expensive.
