Enhancement of growth of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria in mixed infections with anaerobic and facultative gram-positive cocci

Journal of Surgical Research, 1988
The potential for mutual enhancement of growth of seven strains of anaerobic and facultative gram-positive cocci (AFGPC), seven aerobic and facultative organisms, and two Bacteroides spp. commonly isolated with AFGPC in mixed infection was evaluated.

Characterization of aerobic, facultative anaerobic, and anaerobic bacteria in an acidogenic phase reactor and their metabolite formation

Microbial Ecology, 1987
Fifty-two aerobic and facultative anaerobic and 57 anaerobic bacterial isolates were obtained from an acidogenic phase digestion system. These isolates were characterized and the similarities between the different strains were calculated using Sokal and Michener's similarity coefficient.

Control of gene expression by FNR-like proteins in facultatively anaerobic bacteria

Folia Microbiologica, 2002
Facultatively anaerobic bacteria are able to adapt to many different growth conditions. Their capability to change their metabolism optimally is often ensured by FNR-like proteins. The FNR protein of Escherichia coli functions as the main regulator during the aerobic-to-anaerobic switch.

THE USE OF SPECTROPHOTOMETRY IN AN ECOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE FACULTATIVELY ANAEROBIC PURPLE PHOTOSYNTHETIC BACTERIA

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1967
Diverse habitats were surveyed for the presence of Athiorhodaceae, using isolation techniques that permitted the development of only the facultatively anaerobic species of this family: Rhodopseudomonas capsulata, Rhodopseudomonas gelatinosa, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Rhodopseudomonas spheroides, and Rhodospirillum rubrum.

Characterization of the biochemical-pathway of uranium (VI) reduction in facultative anaerobic bacteria

Chemosphere, 2014
Cultures of U(VI) reducing bacteria sourced from abandoned uranium mine tailing dam were evaluated for their ability to reduce U(VI) to U(IV). The species in the cultures reduced U(VI) in solutions with initial U(VI) concentration up to 400mgL(-)(1) under a near neutral pH of 6.5.

Screening of facultative anaerobic bacteria utilizing D -xylose for xylitol production

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2002
Seventeen cultures belonging to three genera of facultative bacteria ( Serratia, Cellulomonas, and Corynebacterium) were screened for the production of xylitol, a sugar alcohol used as a sweetener in the pharmaceutical and food industries. The bacterial strains that utilized D-xylose for growth were investigated for xylitol production.

Phosphatase activity of aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria.

Zentralblatt fur Bakteriologie, Parasitenkunde, Infektionskrankheiten und Hygiene. Erste Abteilung Originale. Reihe A: Medizinische Mikrobiologie und Parasitologie, 1979
1115 strains of aerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacteria were tested for phosphatase activity by a conventional plate method and a microtest. The microtest was devised to allow results to be read after 4 h cultivation. Phosphatase activity was found in wide range of species and strains.

Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Infection Due to Anaerobic and Facultative Bacteria: Case Report

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1995
Infection is the major cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with CSF shunts. The rate of infection among patients who undergo CSF shunt procedures ranges from 2% to 31% [1, 2]. Most infections occur within 1 year of the initial shunting procedure, and the majority of these infections are caused by normal skin flora. These infections are most

O 2 -Sensing and O 2 -dependent gene regulation in facultatively anaerobic bacteria

Archives of Microbiology, 1995
Availability of O2 is one of the most important regulatory signals in facultatively anaerobic bacteria. Various two- or one-component sensor/regulator systems control the expression of aerobic and anaerobic metabolism in response to O2. Most of the sensor proteins contain heme or Fe as cofactors that interact with O2 either by binding or by a redox ...

Interrelation between the pathways of isoprenoid biosynthesis and carbon source catabolism in anaerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacteria

Microbiology, 2008
Data on the interrelation between the pathways of the carbon source catabolism and isoprenoid biosynthesis in anaerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacteria were obtained. Two pathways of isoprenoid biosynthesis (nonmevalonate and mevalonate) were revealed in the representatives of the genus Clostridium.
