Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) was successfully hybridized with common buckwheat (F. esculentum), both diploid (2n=16), using the latter as male parent during bud pollination. The barrier normally encountered in such hybridization was overcome by enhancing the cross-compatibility of the two species, which was accomplished by synthesizing a ...

Visualization of Fagopyrum esculentum and Fagopyrum tataricum Chromosomes and Micronuclei
This chapter presents the squash chromosome preparation technique for Fagopyrum esculentum and F. tataricum, using the root tips as the source of the material. Using an optimized version of this method, the chromosomes are free of cytoplasmic debris and are spread evenly on the glass slide.Reneé, Pérez-Pérez +1 more

Antioxidant phenolic constituents from Fagopyrum dibotrys
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2005Fagopyrum dibotrys (D. Don.) Hara. is an erect perennial Polygonaceous herb. In China, its rhizome was used as folk medicine for the treatment of lung diseases, dysentery and rheumatism. The crude aqueous acetone extract from the rhizomes of this plant exhibited high antioxidant activity (SC50 = 10.95 microg/mL) in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryldydrazyl (DPPH ...

The aim of our work was to determine and to compare the possible antigenotoxic effect of methanolic extracts of common buckwheat (CB) and Tartary buckwheat (TB) flour, containing naturally present rutin (R), and quercetin (Q), and of R and Q in chemical form, against tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) induced DNA damage in human hepatoma cell line ...

We studied the effect of aluminium ions on morphometric traits and water status of common buckwheat. It was carried out a screening study of stomatal parameters at leaf epidermis generated under aluminium-acid stress. Addition of aluminium to the growth medium led to decrease in stomatal density on both leaf sides and partial or total stomatal closure.

Fagopyrum esculentum in vitro.
Ceska a Slovenska farmacie : casopis Ceske farmaceuticke spolecnosti a Slovenske farmaceuticke spolecnosti, 2007Common buckwheat is a valuable source of the flavonoid rutin. Its in vitro culture was derived from a young seedling plant and the content of flavonoids in the callus culture was compared with their content in an intact plant. The optimal nutrient medium for the cultivation of the in vitro culture and for the production of flavonoids is Murashige and ...
