Numerical modeling of earthen dam breach due to piping failure

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2019
Based on model tests of earthen dam breach due to piping failure, a numerical model was developed. A key difference from previous research is the assumption that the cross-section of the pipe channel is an arch, with a rectangle at the bottom and a ...

Experimental study on effects of gradation on strength and deformation of coarse-grained soil

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
Eight large-scale triaxial tests on coarse-grained soil with different lithologies are carried out. The effects of gradation on strength, deformation, dilatancy and particle breakage characteristics of coarse-grained soil are discussed.

Evaluation of safety performance of extremely high slab-faced gravel dams

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
The structural safety performance of Dashixia concrete face gravel dam (CFGD), an extremely high CFGD in Xinjiang, is studied based on the large-scale triaxial experiments on dam materials and the detailed finite element method-based numerical analyses ...

Plastic strain directions of rockfill materials during loading and creeping

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2018
The determination of the incremental plastic strain direction (IPSD) is one of the kernels in elastoplastic constitutive models. It is generally assume that the IPSD depends only on the stress states and is not influenced by the stress increments.

Simulation method for crest cracks in high earth core rockfill dams and its application

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
The crest cracks are the common dangers during construction and operation of high earth core rockfill (ECRD) dams. The occurrence and propagation of the crack increases the safety risk of the project greatly.

Mathematical model for breach of tailings dam due to overtopping and its application

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
Based on the non-equilibrium continuous equation and momentum equation for water-sand mixture, considering the impact on the variation of sand volume concentration due to the change of breach slope and bed, a mathematical model is established to describe

Impact of Metastatic Patterns on Survival and Response to Therapy in Neuroblastoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background While the presence of metastases in neuroblastoma (NB) is a well‐established prognostic factor, the clinical significance of dissemination patterns and tumour burden and their impact on response and survival remains poorly understood.

Phase Angle as an Early Functional Biomarker of Cancer‐Related Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology: A Prospective Longitudinal Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low‐and middle‐income countries. Cancer treatment may impair nutritional status, alter body composition, and exacerbate cancer‐related fatigue (CRF).

Elastoplastic model for cemented coarse-grained materials and its application

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2019
Until now, the engineers still doubt about whether the cemented coarse-grained soils can be used in permanent structures such as high rockfill dams. It is mainly due to the fact that the studies on the mechanical properties of the cemented coarse-grained

A mechanism of failure in shear bands [PDF]

open access: yesExtreme Mechanics Letters, 2018
We have carried out dilatant plasticity simulations to investigate the process of failure inside a shear band. The constitutive model accounts for possibly inhomogeneous flow within the band, void rotation and void elongation. We found that the material in the band may soften with no increase in the void volume fraction.
