Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

An Experimental Study on Mechanical Behavior of Parallel Joint Specimens under Compression Shear

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
In order to investigate the influence of the joint on the failure mode, peak shear strength, and shear stress-strain curve of rock mass, the compression shear test loading on the parallel jointed specimens was carried out, and the acoustic emission ...

Output power limitations and improvements in passively mode locked GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report a novel approach for increasing the output power in passively mode locked semiconductor lasers. Our approach uses epitaxial structures with an optical trap in the bottom cladding that enlarges the vertical mode size to scale the pulse ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Landslide susceptibility mapping based on triggering factors using a multi-modal approach [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
Landslide susceptibility mapping has been done using statistical and physically-based assessment techniques with limited focus on mode-specific models to identify failure modes and runout patterns. Because each failure mode has different consequences, it

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Enhancing the Performance of the T-Peel Test for Thin and Flexible Adhered Laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Symmetrically bonded thin and flexible T-peel specimens, when tested on vertical travel machines, can be subject to significant gravitational loading; with the associated asymmetry and mixed-mode failure during peeling.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Radial and Nonradial Oscillation Modes in Rapidly Rotating Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Radial and nonradial oscillations offer the opportunity to investigate the interior properties of stars. We use 2D stellar models and a 2D finite difference integration of the linearized pulsation equations to calculate non-radial oscillations.
