Fatigue damage mapping [PDF]

open access: yes
Observations of fatigue crack nucleation and early growth are presented. The state of stress/strain was shown to play a significant role in this process.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Investigation on ultimate strength of thin wall tee pipe for sodium cooled fast reactor under seismic loading

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
It is important to investigate the failure mode and ultimate strength of piping components in order to evaluate the seismic integrity of piping. Many failure tests of thick wall and high pressure piping for Light Water Reactors (LWRs) have been ...

FMEA of gasketed and non-gasketed bolted flanged pipe joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Limited work is available in the literature on the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis of bolted flanged pipe joints. From previous comparative reliability studies of both gasketed and non-gasketed bolted flanged pipe joints, generally it is found that ...

Fatigue of friction stir welded 2024-T351 aluminium alloy

open access: yes, 2002
Fatigue failure characteristics of friction stir welds in 13mm gauge 2024-T351 plate have been assessed. Failure occurred from either the weld region (nugget/flow arm) or from the material immediately surrounding the weld.

Crack Front Segmentation and Facet Coarsening in Mixed-Mode Fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A planar crack generically segments into an array of "daughter cracks" shaped as tilted facets when loaded with both a tensile stress normal to the crack plane (mode I) and a shear stress parallel to the crack front (mode III).

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Microstructure-failure mode correlations in braided composites [PDF]

open access: yes
Explication of the fracture processes of braided composites is needed for modeling their behavior. Described is a systematic exploration of the relationship between microstructure, loading mode, and micro-failure mechanisms in carbon/epoxy braided ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
