Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Fractography can be used to analyze failure modes in polytetrafluoroethylene [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Fractographic principles used for analyzing failure in metals are applied to the analysis of the microstructure and fracture of polytetrafluoroethylene.

Comparison of wind turbine tower failure modes under seismic and wind loads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper studies the structural responses and failure modes of a 1.5-MW horizontal-axis wind turbine under strong ground motions and wind loading. Ground motions were selected and scaled to match the two design response spectra given by the seismic ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Experimental Investigation on the Post-Peak Short-Term and Creep Behavior of Fractured Sandstone

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Short-term and creep tests of fractured sandstone with different degrees of damage prepared using pre-peak and post-peak unloading tests on intact sandstone were carried out using a servo-controlled rock mechanics system.

Independent Orbiter Assessment (IOA): Analysis of the crew equipment subsystem [PDF]

open access: yes
The results of the Independent Orbiter Assessment (IOA) of the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Critical Items List (CIL) are presented. The IOA approach features a top-down analysis of the hardware to determine failure modes, criticality ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

A Modified Failure Mode and Effects Analysis for Linear Accelerator Quality Assurance

open access: yesAdvances in Radiation Oncology
Purpose: Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a proactive method for evaluating failure modes and the consequences of those failures. In radiation therapy, a risk-based approach such as this can be used to inform and drive the quality assurance ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
