Estimating the individualized HIV-1 genetic barrier to resistance using a nelfinavir fitness landscape

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2010
Background Failure on Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Treatment is often accompanied with development of antiviral resistance to one or more drugs included in the treatment.

Chemotherapy confers a conserved secondary tolerance to EGFR inhibition via AXL-mediated signaling bypass

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Drug resistance remains the major culprit of therapy failure in disseminated cancers. Simultaneous resistance to multiple, chemically different drugs feeds this failure resulting in cancer relapse.

Addressing the Challenges of Hepatitis C Virus Resistance and Treatment Failure

open access: yesViruses, 2016
Chronic hepatitis C is a major cause of chronic liver disease, including liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The development of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) revolutionized hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment by offering genuine prospects for ...

Simulation-Based Analysis of the Heating Behavior of Failed Bypass Diodes in Photovoltaic-Module Strings

open access: yesEnergies
With the expansion of photovoltaic (PV) systems, failures of bypass diodes (BPDs) embedded in PV modules can degrade the power-generation performance and pose safety risks.

Ultrafiltration in Diuretic-Resistant Cardiac Failure

open access: yesRenal Failure, 1987
Ultrafiltration was performed in 13 patients with diuretic-resistant cardiac failure. All patients had severely distressing peripheral edema and ultrafiltration was successfully completed in 12 patients, all of whom sustained symptomatic improvement. The volume of fluid removed ranged from 3.7 to 23 L, mean 11.8 L.

Resistant and Refractory Hypertension: Antihypertensive Treatment Resistance vs Treatment Failure [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Cardiology, 2016
Resistant or difficult to treat hypertension is defined as high blood pressure that remains uncontrolled with 3 or more different antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic. Recent definitions also include controlled blood pressure with use of 4 or more medications as also being resistant to treatment.

Emergence of Anti-Cancer Drug Resistance: Exploring the Importance of the Microenvironmental Niche via a Spatial Model

open access: yes, 2014
Practically, all chemotherapeutic agents lead to drug resistance. Clinically, it is a challenge to determine whether resistance arises prior to, or as a result of, cancer therapy.

Prevalence, risk factors, and treatment outcomes of isoniazid- and rifampicin-mono-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis in Lima, Peru [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background : Isoniazid and rifampicin are the two most efficacious first-line agents for tuberculosis (TB) treatment. We assessed the prevalence of isoniazid and rifampicin mono-resistance, associated risk factors, and the association of mono-resistance ...

Resistance training improves hemodynamic function, collagen deposition and inflammatory profiles: experimental model of heart failure. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The role of resistance training on collagen deposition, the inflammatory profile and muscle weakness in heart failure remains unclear. Therefore, this study evaluated the influence of a resistance training program on hemodynamic function, maximum ...
