In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Data Wrangling for Fair Classification.
Whenever decisions that affect people are informed by classifiers, there is a risk that the decisions can discriminate against certain groups as a result of bias in the training data. There has been significant work to address this, based on pre-processing the inputs to the classifier, changing the classifier itself, or postprocessing the results of ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The relationship between in-store marketing and observed sales for organic versus fair trade products [PDF]
To stimulate sales of sustainable products, such as organic and fair trade products, retailers need to know whether their in-store instruments effectively enhance market shares. This study uses sales data and a multilevel modeling approach to explain the

The Linguistic Asymmetry Index (LAI): Benchmarking Equity in Multilingual Research Infrastructures
Digital research infrastructures frequently describe themselves as multilingual, yet the degree to which languages are represented, documented, and made accessible depends on metadata policies and aggregation practices that may introduce unevenness. This

Reusable, FAIR Humanities Data.
While stakeholders including funding agencies and academic publishers implement more stringent data sharing policies, challenges remain for researchers in the humanities who are increasingly prompted to share their research data. This paper outlines some key challenges of research data sharing in the humanities, and identifies existing work which has ...

Continuous Fairness On Data Streams
We study the problem of enforcing continuous group fairness over windows in data streams. We propose a novel fairness model that ensures group fairness at a finer granularity level (referred to as block) within each sliding window. This formulation is particularly useful when the window size is large, making it desirable to enforce fairness at a finer ...
