Farnesol-Detecting Olfactory Neurons inDrosophila [PDF]
We set out to deorphanize a subset of putativeDrosophilaodorant receptors expressed in trichoid sensilla using a transgenicin vivomisexpression approach. We identified farnesol as a potent and specific activator for the orphan odorant receptor Or83c. Farnesol is an intermediate in juvenile hormone biosynthesis, but is also produced by ripe citrus fruit

Functional Stability and the Limits of 16S‐Based Inference in Serpentine Biocrusts
Serpentine geochemistry and moisture regime shape bacterial biocrust communities in the Barberton Greenstone Belt, South Africa. While coarse taxonomic metrics (alpha and beta diversity) showed no significant differences, ASV‐level analyses revealed strong taxonomic shifts linked to soil chemistry and moisture, with numerous serpentine‐associated taxa ...

Ameliorative action of farnesol on cyclophosphamide induced toxicity in mice [PDF]
Introduction: Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent with antineoplastic and immunosuppressive effects. Acrolein, one of its metabolites, is responsible for different toxic side effects such as oxidative stress, and cell death.

Bitter taste receptors (T2Rs) play an important role in physiological and cellular responses. Bitter tasting chemicals and microbial metabolites can bind to T2R14, which enables interactions between T2R14 and specific intracellular domains of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) anion channel.

Molecular mechanisms involved in farnesol-induced apoptosis [PDF]
The isoprenoid alcohol farnesol is an effective inducer of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in a variety of carcinoma cell types. In addition, farnesol has been reported to inhibit tumorigenesis in several animal models suggesting that it functions as a chemopreventative and anti-tumor agent in vivo.

Traditional Respiratory Remedies From Anatolia: Ethnobotanical Insights and Bioactive Properties
ABSTRACT Respiratory disorders, ranging from acute viral infections such as influenza and bronchitis to chronic inflammatory conditions including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, emphysema, and pneumonia, represent a major global health burden, affecting millions annually. Traditional Anatolian folk medicine has long relied on plant‐based

Farnesol stimulates laccase production in Trametes versicolor
Farnesol, a quorum‐sensing molecule, was used successfully to improve laccase production in submerged cultures of Trametes versicolor. At the optimal farnesol concentration of 60 μM added at the beginning of the culture, the extracellular laccase ...

Repurposing Farnesol for Combating Drug-Resistant and Persistent Single and Polymicrobial Biofilms
Biofilm-associated infections caused by drug-resistant and persistent bacteria remain a significant clinical challenge. Here we report that farnesol, commercially available as a cosmetic and flavoring agent, shows significant anti-biofilm properties when
