Stimulation of microglial metabotropic glutamate receptor mGlu2 triggers tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced neurotoxicity in concert with microglial-derived fas ligand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Activated microglia may be detrimental to neuronal survival in a number of neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, strategies that reduce microglial neurotoxicity may have therapeutic benefit.

Human FASL ELISA assay v1

open access: yes, 2017
This protocol describes an ELISAassay for measurement of FAS ligand (FASL, CD95L)insupernatants collected from T cell dependent cytotoxicity (TDCC) cultures after BiTE® treatment.

Apoptosis kinetics of purified and PBMC‐associated lymphocytes after photopheresis‐like 8‐methoxypsolaren/UVA treatment

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) induces apoptosis in circulating immune cells, but its kinetics vary slightly depending on the cell type. We compared the progression of apoptosis in PBMCs versus highly purified T cells exposed to 8‐methoxypsoralen and ultraviolet A.

Killer B Lymphocytes and their Fas Ligand Positive Exosomes as Inducers of Immune Tolerance

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2015
Induction of immune tolerance is a key process by which the immune system is educated to modulate reactions against benign stimuli such as self-antigens and commensal microbes.

A Crazy Idea: Ibn Sīnā on Hylomorphism, the Elements, Mixture and Evolutionary Processes

open access: yesTheoria, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ibn Sīnā (c. 973‐1037), the Avicenna of Latin fame, developed a unique theory of the elements and their status in mixtures that severely challenged the views of earlier natural philosophers and in its turn was severely challenged by later Latin Schoolmen in the West.

The role of T cells in sepsis of distinct infectious aetiologies

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Pathogen‐specific sepsis induces mitochondrial dysfunction in T cells, leading to functional alterations. Single‐cell transcriptomics reveals subtype‐specific impairments involving reactive oxygen species accumulation, mtDNA damage, calcium dysregulation, and metabolic reprogramming.

Phyllanthus emblica Exerts Therapeutic Potential in Oral Cancer Through Multiple Pathways

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
Graphic Illustration of the Multifaceted Therapeutic Potential of PEWE, 1. Phyllanthus emblica water extract (PEWE) demonstrates potent anticancer effects against oral cancer by inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while inducing apoptosis and autophagy. 2.

The ground state energy of a massive scalar field in the background of a semi-transparent spherical shell [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We calculate the zero point energy of a massive scalar field in the background of an infinitely thin spherical shell given by a potential of the delta function type. We use zeta functional regularization and express the regularized ground state energy in

Wnt Signaling Downregulation Mediates T Cell Apoptosis Following OKT3‐Induced T Cell Activation in Preclinical Models

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
In OKT3‐treated human PBMCs, Wnt signaling was downregulated, and co‐treatment with the Wnt activator CHIR99021 reduced T cell activation and apoptosis. In humanized mice, transcriptomic profiling revealed upregulation of genes associated with T cell activation, cytokine and ROS production, and apoptosis, with downregulation of canonical Wnt signaling.
