Planning for sustainable development of energy infrastructure: fast – fast simulation tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Energy management has significant impact on planning within local or regional scale. The consequences of the implementation of large-scale renewable energy source involves multifaceted analyses, evaluation of environmental impacts, and the assessment of ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

How fast is fast? [PDF]

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1997
Thanks to the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, in 5 years, information could flow a thousand times faster through business computer lines. Moreover, the Internet images and movies that slowly form on home computers today could arrive a million times faster, through the initiative by NASA and five other federal agencies—if Congress gives the ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Fast Genetic Algorithms

open access: yes, 2017
For genetic algorithms using a bit-string representation of length~$n$, the general recommendation is to take $1/n$ as mutation rate. In this work, we discuss whether this is really justified for multimodal functions. Taking jump functions and the $(1+1)$

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Scheduling Information System at SMA N 1 Madang Rasuan OKU Timur

open access: yesDinamisia
The development of technology and information systems is currently so rapid, especially after the corona pandemic era, everything began to use technological assistance, not spared until the elements of the school were required to use technology as a ...

Preoperative fasting

open access: yesBritish Journal of Surgery, 2003
Abstract Background and methods To avoid pulmonary aspiration, fasting after midnight has become standard in elective surgery, but recent studies have found no scientific support for this practice. Several anaesthesia societies now recommend a 2-h preoperative fast for clear fluids and a 6-h fast for ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Control of fast electron propagation in foam target by high-Z doping

open access: yes, 2018
The influence of high-Z dopant (Bromine) in low-Z foam (polystyrene) target on laser-driven fast electron propagation is studied by the 3D hybrid particle-in-cell (PIC)/fluid code HEETS.It is found that the fast electrons are better confined in doped ...
