Progressive damage in stitched composites: Static tensile tests and tension-tension fatigue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The paper describes progressive damage in static tensile tests and tension-tension fatigue in structurally stitched carbon/epoxy NCF composites, in comparison with their non-stitched counterparts.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fatigue Design Research on Notch–Stud Connectors of Timber–Concrete Composite Structures

open access: yesBuildings
To investigate the mechanical behavior and damage mechanism of notch–stud connectors in timber–concrete composites under fatigue loading, fifteen push-out specimens in five groups were designed with load cycles as the key variable.

Development of a fretting-fatigue mapping concept: The effect of material properties and surface treatments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Fretting-fatigue induced by combined localized cyclic contact motion and external bulk fatigue loadings may result in premature and dramatic failure of the contacting components.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

The Effect of Fatigue Damage on the Corrosion Fatigue Crack Growth Mechanism in A7N01P-T4 Aluminum Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2023
A7N01P-T4 aluminum alloy plates for high-speed trains will experience a certain amount of fatigue damage under alternating loads. Three groups of samples, P0 (no fatigue damage), P1 (loading stress 30 MPa), and P2 (loading stress 70 MPa), were created ...

Fluid and Neuroimaging Biomarkers in Microgliopathy Colony‐Stimulating Factor‐1 Receptor‐Related Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aims to identify both fluid and neuroimaging biomarkers for CSF1R‐RD that can inform the optimal timing of treatment administration to maximize therapeutic benefit, while also providing sensitive quantitative measurements to monitor disease progression.

Nonlinear Fatigue Damage Accumulation

open access: yesFatigue of Aircraft Structures, 2015
One important element of any computational fatigue analysis is the adoption of a hypothesis of fatigue damage accumulation. The most commonly used is the hypothesis of linear accumulation of fatigue damage called the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis.

Floating wind turbines structural details fatigue life assessment

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Fatigue damage prediction is essential for safety of contemporary offshore energy industrial projects, like offshore wind turbines, that are to be designed for sufficiently long operational period of time, with minimal operational disruptions.
