Integration of single‐cell and bulk RNA‐sequencing data reveals the prognostic potential of epithelial gene markers for prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer is a leading malignancy with significant clinical heterogeneity in men. An 11‐gene signature derived from dysregulated epithelial cell markers effectively predicted biochemical recurrence‐free survival in patients who underwent radical surgery or radiotherapy.

Increased Oral Detection, but Decreased Intestinal Signaling for Fats in Mice Lacking Gut Microbiota

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Germ-free (GF) mice lacking intestinal microbiota are significantly leaner than normal (NORM) control mice despite consuming more calories. The contribution of microbiota on the recognition and intake of fats is not known.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Enzymatic hydrolysis of defatted soy flour by three different proteases and their effect on the functional properties of resulting protein hydrolysates

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2002
Commercial defatted soy flour (DSF) was dispersed in distilled water at pH 7 to prepare 5% aqueous dispersion. Soy protein hydrolysates (SPH) were obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of the DSF using three different proteases (Flavourzyme 1000 L, No-vozym ...

Trans unsaturated fatty acids : a study of methodology and levels in New Zealand food fats including milkfat : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Trans fatty acids (TFAs) occur naturally in small amounts in foods such as milk, butter and tallow as a result of biohydrogenation by ruminant gut microflora. They are formed in much larger quantities during chemical hydrogenation of fats and oils.

Stochastic variation in the FOXM1 transcription program mediates replication stress tolerance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cellular heterogeneity is a major cause of drug resistance in cancer. Segeren et al. used single‐cell transcriptomics to investigate gene expression events that correlate with sensitivity to the DNA‐damaging drugs gemcitabine and prexasertib. They show that dampened expression of transcription factor FOXM1 and its target genes protected cells against ...

Influence of Dietary Fat on Fecal Fat

open access: yesGastroenterology, 1973
Abstract The effect of an alteration in the amount of dietary fat intake on fecal fat excretion has been assessed in patients with normal and abnormal fecal fat output and in 4 normal subjects. In 25 of 28 patients studied and in all normal subjects fecal fat excretion increased with increasing fat intake and was independent of the order in which the ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Comparison of the Viability of Cryopreserved Fat Tissue in Accordance with the Thawing Temperature

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2015
Background Adipose tissue damage of cryopreserved fat after autologous fat transfer is inevitable in several processes of re-transplantation. This study aims to compare and analyze the survivability of adipocytes after thawing fat cryopreserved at -20 ...
