Effect of 3-thia fatty acids on the lipid composition of rat liver, lipoproteins, and heart

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1997
To investigate the importance of factors influencing the fatty acid composition, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in the rat, the effect of 3-thia fatty acids of chain-length ranging from octyl- to hexadecylthioacetic acid were studied.

Relationship between Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine
Multiple factors cause atherosclerosis, meaning its pathogenesis is complex, and has not been fully elucidated. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are a member of the fatty acid family, which are critical nutrients for mammalian growth and development.

Fatty acid metabolism in breast cancer subtypes

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
Dysregulation of fatty acid metabolism is recognized as a component of malignant transformation in many different cancers, including breast; yet the potential for targeting this pathway for prevention and/or treatment of cancer remains unrealized ...

Construction of hyperthermostable d‐allulose 3‐epimerase from Arthrobacter globiformis M30 using the sequence information from Arthrobacter psychrolactophilus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
d‐Allulose can be produced from d‐fructose by d‐allulose 3‐epimerase. Based on sequence homology information, we successfully engineered thermostable mutants with the protein engineering method. By integrating positive mutations, we constructed an enzyme that exhibits hyperthermostability without a loss in the activity.

Betaine affects muscle lipid metabolism via regulating the fatty acid uptake and oxidation in finishing pig

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, 2017
Background Betaine affects fat metabolism in animals, but the specific mechanism is still not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible mechanisms of betaine in altering lipid metabolism in muscle tissue in finishing pigs.

Current trends in single‐cell RNA sequencing applications in diabetes mellitus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing is a powerful approach to decipher the cellular and molecular landscape at a single‐cell resolution. The rapid development of this technology has led to a wide range of applications, including the detection of cellular and molecular mechanisms and the identification and introduction of novel potential diagnostic and ...

Release of free fatty acids from Ehrlich ascites tumor cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
Ehrlich ascites tumor cells release free fatty acids (FFA) during in vitro incubation in media that contain albumin. The released FFA are derived by lipolysis from endogenous lipid esters.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

Sexually dimorphic brain fatty acid composition in low and high fat diet-fed mice

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2016
Objective: In this study, we analyzed the fatty acid profile of brains and plasma from male and female mice fed chow or a western-style high fat diet (WD) for 16 weeks to determine if males and females process fatty acids differently.
