Assorted monounsaturated fatty acids promote healthy hearts [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1999
In the last half of this century, a variety of recommendations have been made concerning the optimal diet to lower cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The primary focus in the early years was on decreasing the intake of total fat, especially of saturated fat, in the diet.

Fatty acid composition of the meat from the Mos breed and commercial strain capons slaughtered at different ages

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2012
The influence of the breed [Mos (Spanish indigenous breed), Sasso T-44 and X-44 (commercial strains)] and the age (5, 6, 7 and 8 months) of capons (castrated male cockerels) on the fatty acid compositions of breast and drumstick meat were studied.

The Role of Stearoyl-coenzyme A Desaturase 1 in Liver Development, Function, and Pathogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Renal and Hepatic Disorders, 2019
Stearoyl-coenzyme A desaturase 1 (SCD1) is a microsomal enzyme that controls fatty acid metabolism and is highly expressed in hepatocytes. SCD1 may play a key role in liver development and hepatic lipid homeostasis through promoting monounsaturated ...

Inverse Association between trans Isomeric and Long-Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Pregnant Women and Their Newborns: Data from Three European Countries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: trans unsaturated fatty acids are thought to interfere with essential fatty acid metabolism. To extend our knowledge of this phenomenon, we investigated the relationship between trans isomeric and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids ...

Plasma Saturated and Monounsaturated Fatty Acids in Behçet’s Disease [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Rheumatology Journal, 2018
Background:Fatty Acid (FA) composition of serum has been associated with many markers of inflammation. In this study, we tried to examine plasma Saturated Fatty Acid (SFA) and Monounsaturated Fatty Acid (MUFA) composition in Behçet's Disease (BD) patients.

Preeclampsia is associated with compromized maternal synthesis of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids leading to offspring deficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Obesity and excessive lipolysis are implicated in preeclampsia (PE). Intrauterine growth restriction is associated with low maternal body mass index and decreased lipolysis.

Dietary Monounsaturated Fatty Acids Appear Not to Provide Cardioprotection [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Atherosclerosis Reports, 2010
Dietary interventions have been consistently proposed as a part of a comprehensive strategy to lower the incidence and severity of coronary heart disease (CHD), in the process providing long-term cardioprotection. Replacement of dietary saturated fatty acids (SFA) with higher intakes of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids

Changes of fatty acid profiles in fillets of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum) during frozen storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this study changes in fatty acids profile during frozen storage at -18°C of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum), caught from the Persian Gulf (Bandar Abbas) were studied.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
