Fractionation of Edible Fats: Model Fat‐Oil Separation in Decanter Centrifuge

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, EarlyView.
A model system was investigated, and fat crystal agglomerates were effectively separated from oil using a lab‐scale decanter centrifuge. High hydrostatic pressure on the bowl wall results in a compacted cake. Low cake axial transport velocity allows sufficient time for the olein to be removed from the cake pores.

Total Synthesis of Ectocarpin A

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A fully enantioselective total synthesis of ectocarpin A, a new oxylipin, has been achieved in 12 steps starting from tetrahydro‐1H‐cyclopentafuranone. Key steps include the formation of the chiral core, diastereoselective epoxidation, enzymatic desymmetrization of a 1,4‐diol, epimerization, and strategic Wittig and Julia‐Kocienski olefinations to ...

A brief history and future directions of dielectrophoretic filtration: A review

open access: yesELECTROPHORESIS, EarlyView.
Abstract Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an electrokinetic effect first studied in the early 20th century. Since then, DEP has gained significant interest in research, owing to its ability to solve particle separation problems in various industries. Dielectrophoretic filtration (DEP filtration) is a separation method using DEP to filter a wide range of ...

Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

Intestinal microbiome alterations in pediatric epilepsy: Implications for seizures and therapeutic approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract The intestinal microbiome plays a pivotal role in maintaining host health through its involvement in gastrointestinal, immune, and central nervous system (CNS) functions. Recent evidence underscores the bidirectional communication between the microbiota, the gut, and the brain and the impact of this axis on neurological diseases, including ...
