Unsaturated Fatty Acids in Acne

Archives of Dermatology, 1959
Long-continued, low-fat acne diets often cause weight and energy loss, and resistance to infection may be lowered. Therefore, I decided to give supplemental unsaturated fatty acids to see what the effect would be on the weight loss and on the acne itself.

Unsaturated Fatty Acids in Infant Formula

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1978
To the Editor.— I read with great interest the article entitled "The Science of Infant Nutrition and the Art of Infant Feeding" by Calvin W. Woodruff, MD (240:657, 1978). The article is a rather complete review of this matter. I would like, however, to correct a misstatement that appears in the article.

Microbial Oxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids

1995
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the oxidation, specifically the hydration, of unsaturated fatty acids. The term “oxidation” defines the addition of oxygen atoms to a substrate (X); the opposite process is reduction. The investigation of the nature of biological oxidation processes eventually proposed a generalized mechanism for biological ...

[Essential unsaturated fatty acids].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 1999
Linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids are essential unsaturated fatty acids which were referred to as vitamin F much earlier. Their biological significance is to be converted to eicosapolyenoic acids including arachidonic acid which are the precursors of bioactive eicosanoids such as prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes.

Polymerization of unsaturated fatty acids

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1947
SummaryA method is proposed for the preparation of polybasic fat acids or “dimer” acids directly from fatty acids which is readily adaptable to commercial use. The presence of moisture maintained in the reaction vessel by steam pressure substantially prevents decomposition and decarboxylation of the fatty acids.
