Synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids
Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1973Abstract This article reviews synthetic routes leading to polyunsaturated fatty acids having “skipped” double bonds. Emphasis is placed on the “acetylenic approach”. The suitability of building blocks, their condensation reactions as well as the controlled reduction of triple bonds to cis double bonds are discussed. In addition, the application of

Microalgae as rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids
Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology, 2019Microalgae are rich source of poly unsaturated fatty acids and therefore, extraction and purification of poly unsaturated fatty acids from algal strains are emerging steeply to nourish the nutritional needs of the population.

Oxidation and activation of unsaturated fatty acids
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1959Abstract 1. 1. Small amounts of unsaturated fatty acids are oxidized to CO 2 , both in vivo and in vitro , at a greater rate than the corresponding saturated fatty acids. 2. 2. Fat-feeding to rats stimulates the rate of oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. 3. 3. Cholesterol-feeding to rabbits, but not to rats, stimulates the oxidation

Unsaturated fatty acid metabolism in Neurospora
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1953Summary Five independent occurrences of Neurospora mutants requiring unsaturated fatty acids were found. Four of these were allelic and grew in the presence of either oleic, linoleic, or linolenic acid. The remaining mutant which was not allelic was partially blocked in the conversion of linoleic to linolenic acid.

Interaction of bisulfite with unsaturated fatty acids
Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1982Sodium bisulfite reacted with unsaturated fatty acids, significantly increasing their polarity as determined by behavior on silica gel thin-layer chromatography. The ultraviolet absorption spectra of unsaturated fatty acids (due to the presence of double bonds) were abolished as a result of the reaction. Fatty acids containing more than one double bond

Metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids in the intestine
Lipids, 1967AbstractRats fed a fat‐free diet from weaning were contined on that diet alone or supplemented with methyl linoleate, methyl linoleate plus a mixture of antibiotics, or methyl arachidonate.Dietary linoleate and arachidonate reduced the concentration of octadecenoic acid and increased that of stearic acid in the mucosa and luminal lipids.

Microbial Oxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids
1995Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the oxidation, specifically the hydration, of unsaturated fatty acids. The term “oxidation” defines the addition of oxygen atoms to a substrate (X); the opposite process is reduction. The investigation of the nature of biological oxidation processes eventually proposed a generalized mechanism for biological ...

Unsaturated Fatty Acids in Infant Formula
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1978To the Editor.— I read with great interest the article entitled "The Science of Infant Nutrition and the Art of Infant Feeding" by Calvin W. Woodruff, MD (240:657, 1978). The article is a rather complete review of this matter. I would like, however, to correct a misstatement that appears in the article.
