Metabolomic Profiling of Statin Use and Genetic Inhibition of HMG-CoA Reductase [PDF]
Background Statins are first-line therapy for cardiovascular disease prevention, but their systemic effects across lipoprotein subclasses, fatty acids, and circulating metabolites remain incompletely characterized.

Selective mobilization of adipose tissue fatty acids during energy depletion in the rat.
This study extends our previous work (Raclot, T., and R. Groscolas. 1993. J. Lipid Res. 34: 1515-1526) which demonstrated that in the fed state fatty acids are selectively released from white adipocytes in vitro.

Impact of nitrogen regime on fatty acid profiles of Desmodesmus quadricaudatus and Chlorella sp. and ability to produce biofuel [PDF]
Microalgae have emerged as one of the most promising sources for fatty acid production. Since the various fatty acid profiles (chain length, degree of unsaturation, and branching of the chain) of the different sources influence biodiesel fuel properties,

The aim of this paper is to determine the impact of hemp press cake flour (HPCF) on fatty acids and the microbiological quality of gluten-free bread. Seven types of gluten-free bread with different amounts of HPCF (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 %) were ...

Interactions Between Albumin and Fatty Acids Studied by NMR Spectroscopy
Fatty acids are important substrates for the synthesis of membrane phospholipids and other bioactive compounds, and thus play vital roles in mammalian energy metabolism. Fatty acids often bind to proteins in the blood.

Fatty Acid Composition of Novel Host Jack Pine Do Not Prevent Host Acceptance and Colonization by the Invasive Mountain Pine Beetle and Its Symbiotic Fungus. [PDF]
Fatty acids are major components of plant lipids and can affect growth and development of insect herbivores. Despite a large literature examining the roles of fatty acids in conifers, relatively few studies have tested the effects of fatty acids on ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Fatty acids are long-chain hydrocarbons. They are called unsaturated fatty acids when they lack the maximum possible number of hydrogen atoms attached to every carbon atom. For example, if stearic acid, which has 18 carbon atoms and frequently occurs in animal and plant fats, is missing 2 hydrogen atoms, then a double bond is present and the resulting ...
