Fault estimation and active fault tolerant control for servo systems

2016 IEEE International Conference on Real-time Computing and Robotics (RCAR), 2016
In this paper, the problems of fault estimation and fault tolerant control for motor servo systems are investigated. The motor servo systems are modeled as continuous-time linear systems with unknown inputs and actuator faults. Based on the faulty system model, a robust fault estimation and active fault tolerant control scheme is proposed.

The impact of fault expansion on the interval estimate for fault detection coverage

Proceedings of IEEE 24th International Symposium on Fault- Tolerant Computing, 2002
A high fault detection coverage is very critical for systems with ultra-safe requirements and fault injection is an effective technique for estimating the coverage. One difficulty of fault injection lies in the huge number of injections that need to be carried out in order to obtain statistically significant results.

Estimating Earthquake-Rupture Rates on a Fault or Fault System

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2011
Previous approaches used to determine the rates of different earthquakes on a fault have made assumptions regarding segmentation, have been difficult to document and reproduce, and have lacked the ability to satisfy all available data constraints.

On fault tolerant estimation in sensor networks

2003 European Control Conference (ECC), 2003
This paper addresses the fault tolerant estimation problem. Fault tolerance is defined with respect to a given estimation objective, namely a given functional of the system state should remain observable when sensor failures occur. Three criteria, which evaluate the system fault tolerance with respect to sensor failures when a reconfiguration strategy ...

Fault signal filtering for improving fault section estimation

2000 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37077), 2002
Fault diagnostic processes obtain data from circuit-breaker relay status and SCADA messages. To speed up fault diagnosis processes, a scheme of fault signal filtering (FSF) is proposed for the rapid estimation of fault regions, prior to further pinpointing of the fault. By considering circuit-breaker relay status, boundary regions are formed by joining

Estimation of Fault Resistance Using Fault Record Data

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2015
Information about typical fault resistances of transmission lines will help improve the settings of distance relays. This paper proposes an offline method for estimating the fault resistance of transmission lines using the COMTRADE fault files available from digital distance relays. The proposed method uses the fault records at both ends of a line, but

Fast fault estimation for linear systems with unmatched faults

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2015
This paper proposes a fast fault estimation (FE) method for a class of linear time-invariant systems, which relaxes the strict observer matching condition. Firstly, the integration unknown input observer is designed for the more widely left invertible systems.

Active Fault Tolerant Control Based on Fault Estimation

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
For the chattering problem in the traditional sliding mode observer-based fault estimation, a second order sliding mode observer based on the Super-twisting algorithm was proposed. In order to avoid the cumbersome process of proving the stability of the Super-twisting algorithm, a Lyapunov function was adopted.

Fault Estimation Observer Design of Nonlinear Systems with Actuator Faults

2017
This paper introduces a relaxation design of fault estimation observer for some nonlinear dynamical plants by means of the Takagi–Sugeno method. A featured fuzzy fault estimation observer is produced by utilizing the named maximum-priority-based switching law, which is different from these existing ones.

Using functional fault simulation and the difference fault model to estimate implementation fault coverage

IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 1990
An approach to estimate the fault coverage of the implementation of a VLSI design obtained by fault simulation at the function level is presented. The proposed methodology begins by defining a fault model for the functional level, the difference fault model (DFM), which reflects all of the faults in the implementation level.
