Beyond Gut Modulation: A Critical Review of the Therapeutic Potential, Safety, and Clinical Prospects of Natural Polysaccharides for IBD

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
In this review, we critically summarized the application of natural polysaccharides (NPs) for the treatment of IBD. This approach combines, in a unique way (right), the basic structure–activity relationships of NPs from different origins (left) with their multipronged mode of action, which involves modulation of the gut microbiota and other ...

A multilevel perspective on MSH6‐associated Lynch syndrome: Integrating molecular, biological, and clinical insights

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Lynch syndrome (LS) is the most common hereditary colorectal cancer syndrome, caused by a germline pathogenic variant in one of the mismatch repair (MMR) genes. Among these, MSH6‐associated LS represents a distinct subtype with unique molecular and clinical characteristics.

Head‐to‐head comparison of the diagnostic value of fecal and serum carcinoembryonic antigen for colorectal cancer detection

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? The diagnostic value of fecal versus serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) for colorectal cancer detection remains unclear. This study provides a head‐to‐head comparison of serum and fecal CEA using matched samples from two large colorectal cancer screening studies and two fecal sample processing methods.

Antibiotic Remodeling of the Gut Microbiota Impairs Host Resistance to Secondary Infection

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
Gut microbial dynamics induced by four antibiotics, revealed distinct taxonomic and functional shifts. Vancomycin‐perturbed bacteriomes were proven to promote pathogen resistance to antibiotic treatment. Metronidazole‐treated mice showed pronounced Salmonella translocation to hepatic tissue, and altered Enterococcus avium populations modulated host ...
