Production of 1,3-Propanediol by Clostridium Butyricum Growing on Biodiesel Derived Glycerol

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
The continuous demand for alternative biofuels resulted in a significant rise of biodiesel production in last decade. As a consequence, high quantities of raw glycerol have been accumulated.

High-level fed-batch fermentative expression of an engineered Staphylococcal protein A based ligand in E. coli: purification and characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The major platform for high level recombinant protein production is based on genetically modified microorganisms like Escherichia coli (E. coli) due to its short dividing time, ability to use inexpensive substrates and additionally, its genetics is ...

A Systematic Comparison of Alpha‐Synuclein Seed Amplification Assays for Increasing Reproducibility

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seed amplification assays (SAAs) enable ultrasensitive detection of misfolded α‐synuclein across biofluids and tissues. Yet, heterogeneity in protocols limits cross‐study comparability and clinical translation. Here, we review α‐synuclein SAA methods and their performance across various biological matrices.

Kinetic study of batch and fed-batch enzymatic saccharification of pretreated substrate and subsequent fermentation to ethanol

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2012
Background Enzymatic hydrolysis, the rate limiting step in the process development for biofuel, is always hampered by its low sugar concentration. High solid enzymatic saccharification could solve this problem but has several other drawbacks such as low ...

Techno-economic analysis of Cellulase Production by Trichoderma reesei in Submerged Fermentation Processes using a Process Simulator

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2022
Enzymes are valuable in many biofuels production processes, and their wide application has generated significant market demand in recent years. To develop lignocellulosic fuels in a biorefinery, high cost and low catalytic efficiency of cellulase are a ...

Fed-batch fermentation of olive mill wastewaters for lipase production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the Mediterranean basin countries, huge amounts of olive mill wastewaters (OMW) are produced by the olive oil industry. It constitutes a serious environmental problem, nevertheless its composition turns OMW into a potential growth medium to lipolytic ...

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Minimal time control of fed-batch processes with growth functions having several maxima [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We address the issue of minimal time optimal control of fedbatch reactor in presence of complex non monotonic kinetics, that can be typically characterized by the combination of two Haldane models. The optimal synthesis may present several singular arcs.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.
