Ammonia inhibition of hybridomas propagated in batch, fed‐batch, and continuous culture
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1994AbstractThe nature and temporal development of ammonia inhbition were investigated in batch, fed‐batch, and continuous cultures. Significant inhibition was observed when cells were inoculated in serum‐containing or chemically defined medium containing more than 2 mM of ammonia.

Improve Production of Pullulanase of Bacillus subtilis in Batch and Fed-Batch Cultures
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2020Pullulanase is a debranching enzyme that cleaves explicitly α-1,6 glycosidic bonds, which is widely used in starch saccharification, production of glucose, maltose, and bioethanol. The thermal-resistant pullulanase is isolated from a variety of microorganisms; however, the lack of industrial production of pullulanase has hindered the transformation of ...

Supervision of fed-batch fermentations
Chemical Engineering Journal, 1999Process faults may be detected on-line using existing measurements based upon modelling that is entirely data driven. A multivariate statistical model is developed and used for fault diagnosis of an industrial fed-batch fermentation process. Data from several (25) batches are used to develop a model for cultivation behaviour.

Fed-batch reactor is based on feeding of a growth limiting nutrient substrate to a culture. Cell growth and fermentation can be controlled by the feeding strategy. The fed-batch strategy is typically used to reach a high cell density in the bioreactor or mimic a continuous culture. Mostly the feed solution is highly concentrated.

Batch to Batch Iterative Learning Control of a Fed-Batch Fermentation Process
2012Batch to batch iterative learning control of a fed-batch fermentation process is studied in this paper. Taking the immediate previous batch as the reference batch, a linearised model relating the deviations in the control profiles with the deviations in the quality variable trajectories is obtained.

Model structures for batch and fed-batch ethanol fermentations
2019 IEEE CHILEAN Conference on Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies (CHILECON), 2019Parameter estimation is one of the most challenging steps while modelling a biological process, due to the inherent complexity of this type of processes and the difficulty in obtaining reliable experimental data. A common modelling practice in this area is to use a batch culture to estimate model parameters and then use these values to simulate and ...

Shear Sensitivity of Hybridoma Cells in Batch, Fed‐Batch, and Continuous Cultures
Biotechnology Progress, 1990AbstractPreviously, we observed that CRL‐8018 hybridoma cells were more sensitive to well‐defined viscometric shear during the lag and stationary phases than during the exponential phase of batch cultures. Some potential hypotheses for explaining the increase in shear sensitivity are (1) nutrient limitations that result in a decrease in production of ...

The control of fed-batch fermentation processes—A survey
Automatica, 1987A survey of the control of fermentation processes operated in fed-batch mode is presented. Truely optimal conditions can only be found by minimizing (or maximizing) a cost criterion subject ot the constraints imposed by a mathematical model of the process.

Kinetics of Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Olive Oil in Batch and Fed-batch Systems
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2014This work reports experimental data, kinetic modeling, and simulations of enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis of olive oil. This reaction was performed in batch system and an ordered-sequential Bi Bi model was used to model the kinetic mechanism. A fed-batch system was proposed and experimental data were obtained and compared to the simulated values.

Modeling of Overflow Metabolism in Batch and Fed-Batch Cultures of Escherichia coli
Biotechnology Progress, 1999A dynamic model of glucose overflow metabolism in batch and fed-batch cultivations of Escherichia coli W3110 under fully aerobic conditions is presented. Simulation based on the model describes cell growth, respiration, and acetate formation as well as acetate reconsumption during batch cultures, the transition of batch to fed-batch culture, and fed ...
