Graptoloid feeding efficiency, rotation and astogeny [PDF]

open access: yesLethaia, 1992
Two methods are used to examine feeding strategies in graploloids; the first profiles different sets of zooids on the colony, the second treats the colony as a whole. Both of these techniques have advantages. The choice between them brings into question our concepts of the degree of coloniality shown by graptoloids.

Establishment and optimization of the two‐step induction system for generating primordial germ cell‐like cells from chicken embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study optimizes a two‐step induction system to generate PGCLCs from chicken ESCs. The induced cells express germline markers and migrate to gonads in ovo, offering a novel approach for avian genetic resource conservation. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the progenitor cells of sperm and eggs.

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Tryptophan metabolite atlas uncovers organ, age, and sex‐specific variations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tryptophan metabolites were analyzed across twelve organs, the central nervous system, and serum in male and female mice at three life stages. We found tissue‐, sex‐, and age‐specific differences, including increased indole‐3‐pyruvate and kynurenine in aging males.

Effect of dietary lycopene supplementation on growth, antioxidant and immunity of juvenile hybrid grouper (♀Epinephelus fuscoguttatus ×♂E. lanceolatus) fed with high lipid diets

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of dietary lycopene (LCP) on growth performance, antioxidant, and immunity of hybrid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀ × E. lanceolatus♂) fed with high-lipid diets (HLD, CL16 %). Hybrid groupers

Efficient feed preheat targeting for distillation by feed splitting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Abstract Thermal condition of the feed may be altered to reduce the reboiler duty. However, only a portion of the thermal energy given to the feed reduces the reboiler duty. By splitting the feed and altering the thermal condition of a part of the feed, it is possible to achieve reduction only in the reboiler duty (100% preheat efficiency).
