Comparative assessment of crystallographic and cryo‐EM models in the Protein Data Bank

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Raw data obtained by X‐ray crystallography or cryo‐EM result in experimental maps, ultimately fitted by atomic models. Although the physical principles are different, the final results can be viewed, compared, and evaluated in the same way. With cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) on track to surpass X‐ray crystallography as the preferred method ...

Holographic Vector Wave Femtosecond Laser Processing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optomechatronics, 2014
Arbitrary and variable beam shaping of femtosecond pulses by a computer-generated hologram (CGH) displayed on a spatial light modulator (SLM) have been applied to femtosecond laser processing. The holographic femtosecond laser processing has been widely used in many applications such as two-photon polymerization, optical waveguide fabrication ...

Controlling Grain Growth in Powder Bed Fusion of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia Using Femtosecond Lasers: Challenges and Methodological Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Binder‐free laser powder bed fusion of 8YSZ with a femtosecond laser is used to map process windows linking scan strategy, heat accumulation, and grain growth. Time‐resolved thermography and simulations reveal thermal regimes that enable continuous, vitrified, and fine‐grained 8YSZ surface layers without absorptive additives and demonstrate ...

Applanation-free femtosecond laser processing of the cornea

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2011
A novel approach for applanation-free femtosecond refractive surgery with the help of a contact liquid layer is presented. A laboratory device for performing corneal procedures is described based on a femtosecond-laser system which has been tested and evaluated by processing ex vivo pig eyes.

Photoinduced Charge Separation in Single‐Component Squaraine Films: The Key Role of Electrostatic Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neat films of organic dyes are an interesting technological platform for solar cells and photodetectors. Recently, the conventional biphasic bulk‐heterojunction paradigm for photoinduced charge separation was challenged by the observation that charge carriers can be photogenerated in single‐component materials. A comprehensive experimental and

Sacrificial‐Layer‐Assisted Heat‐Affected‐Zone Suppression in Laser Patterning of PET for High‐Performance Flexible Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A removable sacrificial polymer layer engineers the thermal boundary condition during nanosecond laser ablation of PET, suppressing heat‐affected‐zone formation without relying on costly ultrafast lasers. This strategy enables deep, high‐aspect‐ratio trenches with no detectable heat‐affected zone, templating silver‐filled mesh electrodes with record ...
