Multidimensional Engineering of Escherichia coli for Efficient Adipic Acid Synthesis From Cyclohexane

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An engineered Escherichia coli is developed to efficiently produce adipic acid (AA) from cyclohexanol, KA oil (a mixture of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone), or cyclohexane through a combination of enzyme screening, protein fusion, and genome editing techniques. This approach has achieved the highest recorded productivity for biological AA production to

The multifactorial aquaculture‐related COVID‐19 shock in Benin, West Africa: A socio‐economic perspective of mitigating the disruptive impacts on the small‐scale and subsistence producers

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 507-521, December 2022., 2022
Graphical Abstract This study deals with a timely topic, COVID‐19, whose impacts on aquaculture have never been quantified in Benin. Direct discussions were held with aquaculture producers to understand how they are feeling the impact of the pandemic on their business.

Orally Administered Functional Polyphenol‐Nanozyme‐Armored Probiotics for Enhanced Amelioration of Intestinal Inflammation and Microbiota Dysbiosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel polyphenol‐nanozyme‐armored probiotic system (ECA@EcN) for enhanced treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By integrating chitosan‐modified epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG‐CS) with gold nanozymes, the system effectively scavenges ROS, improves probiotic viability, and restores gut microbiota balance.

Unraveling Turkish agricultural market challenges: Consequences of COVID‐19, Russia–Ukraine conflict, and energy market dynamics

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract For a significant global segment, the volatility in grain prices presents a substantial menace to food accessibility and security. In the global pandemic and the Russia–Ukraine conflict (RUW), numerous nations were caught off guard, exacerbating this predicament and leading to instances where citizens faced purchasing restrictions on sunflower

High Fat Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Linked to CNS Autoimmunity Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mapping global epidemiological data to macronutrient supply reveals high carbohydrate, in contrast to high fat supply, associates with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence and incidence. This is confirmed in a mouse MS model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), using isocaloric diets: a high carbohydrate diet aggravates, a high ...

Cell Sizes Matter for Industrial Bioproduction, a Case of Polyhydroxybutyrate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Most bacterial cells are small, restricting the accumulation of intracellular products like polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). To solve this problem, the ClpXP system in Halomonas bluephagenesis is identified and redesigned. Then MreB is degraded progressively by this engineered system, expanding cell size more than nine times.

Metabolic Engineering of Corynebacterium glutamicum for High‐Level Production of 1,5‐Pentanediol, a C5 Diol Platform Chemical

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops an efficient biosynthesis system for 1,5‐pentanediol (1,5‐PDO) in Corynebacterium glutamicum, an important compound for industrial applications. By engineering the l‐lysine degradation pathway, 5‐hydroxyvaleric acid (5‐HV) is synthesized from glucose as a key intermediate.

Advances in Fecal Microbiota Transplantation for Gut Dysbiosis‐Related Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article reviews the use of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) to treat intestinal diseases like recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It discusses FMT's efficacy, influencing factors such as donor selection, recipient characteristics, and treatment protocols ...

Coupling hydrothermal liquefaction and aqueous phase reforming for integrated production of biocrude and renewable H2

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Lignin‐rich stream from lignocellulosic ethanol production was converted into biocrude by continuous hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) while hydrogen was produced by aqueous phase reforming (APR) of the HTL aqueous by‐product. The effects of Na2CO3 and NaOH were investigated both in terms of processability of the feedstock as well as yield and ...
