Unwrapping the Ciliary Coat: High‐Resolution Structure and Function of the Ciliary Glycocalyx

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ciliary membrane is decorated in glycosylated proteins that define the interaction of the cilium with its environment. The main component of the ciliary coat of the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, FMG1, is characterized by cryo‐electron microscopy, proteomics, and live cell microscopy with flow‐based adhesion assays.

Sustainable decision making for chemical process systems via dimensionality reduction of many objective problems

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Recent global events and the rise of sustainable investing have made clear that the chemical and energy industry must consider sustainability goals beyond profit maximization to remain competitive. Multiobjective optimization provides an ideal framework for analyzing sustainability tradeoffs, but when four or more objectives are considered ...

TRIM56 Promotes White Adipose Tissue Browning to Attenuate Obesity by Degrading TLE3

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study pinpoints TRIM56 as a viable candidate for promoting white adipose tissue browning and as a promising therapeutic target for addressing obesity and metabolic disorders. Functioning as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, TRIM56 facilitates the degradation of the TLE3 protein, thereby accelerating the thermogenic process and enhancing energy expenditure ...

Protease‐Mediated Synthesis of Zein Nanofibrils: From Structural Elucidation to Functional Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The globular shape and hydrophobicity of zein made it unsuitable to be processed in pure aqueous environment. Pepsin‐mediated hydrolysis converts zein into water‐soluble and fibril‐forming peptides with a bioconversion rate exceeding 70%, enabling the self‐assembly of amyloid‐like nanofibrils.

Rapid Blood Clot Removal via Remote Delamination and Magnetization of Clot Debris

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable colloidal microswarm is developed to quickly detach blood clots and enable rapid recanalization, with the detached debris functioning as a magnetic “debris‐robot” that can be efficiently propelled and retrieved via catheter suction, which could significantly save time compared to the critical “Golden 6 hours” window for ischemic stroke ...

Hybrid Outer Membrane Vesicles with Genetically Engineering for Treatment of Implant‐Associated Infections and Relapse Prevention Through Host Immunomodulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An immune‐strengthening nanovesicle, mBMSCCXCR4@OMV, is constructed by the hybridization of Escherichia coli‐derived outer membrane vesicles and mBMSCCXCR4 isolated from genetically‐engineered bone marrow‐derived mesenchymal stem cells overexpressing CXCR4. The nanovesicle mBMSCCXCR4@OMV selectively accumulates in the infected bone sites, and initiates
