Improving the Indigenous Processing of Kocho, an Ethiopian Traditional Fermented Food [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition & Food Sciences, 2013
The experiment was carried out using factorial combination of two enset varieties, three fermentation time, and two processing methods with tree replication, to investigate the effects of fermentation time, variety and processing methods on physicochemical qualities, chemical composition, microbial quality and sensory acceptance of kocho. In this study,

Electro-stimulation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeasts by Pulsed Electric Field and its effect on fermentation performance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
The batch fermentation process, inoculated by pulsed electric field (PEF) treated wine yeasts (S. cerevisiae Actiflore F33), was studied. PEF treatment was applied to the aqueous yeast suspensions (0.12 % wt.) at the electric field strengths of E=100 and 6000 V/cm using the same pulse protocol (number of pulses of n=1000, pulse duration of ti=100 mks ...

A survey on composition and microbiota of fresh and fermented yak milk at different Tibetan altitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Yak milk is a type of milk that people are less familiar with due to its remote geographical location, the particular geographical environment and climatic conditions in Tibet, which may have significant effects on composition, microbiota and ...

Dual Charge Transfer Mechanisms in Intimately Bonded S‐scheme Heterojunction Photocatalyst with Expeditious Activity toward Environmental Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
A novel MBOdCN S‐scheme heterojunction photocatalyst is fabricated using pristine Mg‐Bi2O3 and grayish g‐C3N4, where dynamic dual charge migration paths occur to accelerate exciton dissociation. This composite catalyst realizes high degradation efficiency of up to 99.56% of oxytetracycline (OTC) removal under optimized conditions. The material exhibits

Drop breakage in a single‐pass through vortex‐based cavitation device: Experiments and modeling

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Liquid–liquid emulsions are used in many sectors such as personal care, home care, and food products. There is an increasing need for developing compact and modular devices for producing emulsions with desired droplet size distribution (DSD). In this work, we have experimentally and computationally investigated an application of vortex‐based ...

Multi‐Omics Analysis Reveals Impacts of LincRNA Deletion on Yeast Protein Synthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the deletion of specific lincRNAs in yeast affects protein secretion. An engineered yeast strain, with multiple genetic modifications including lincRNA deletion, achieves a high yield of 4.1 g L⁻1 in fed‐batch cultivation.

Coupling hydrothermal liquefaction and aqueous phase reforming for integrated production of biocrude and renewable H2

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Lignin‐rich stream from lignocellulosic ethanol production was converted into biocrude by continuous hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) while hydrogen was produced by aqueous phase reforming (APR) of the HTL aqueous by‐product. The effects of Na2CO3 and NaOH were investigated both in terms of processability of the feedstock as well as yield and ...
