Premature termination codons destabilize ferredoxin‐1 mRNA when ferredoxin‐1 is translated

The Plant Journal, 2000
SummaryFerredoxin‐1 (Fed‐1) mRNA is poorly translated in dark‐treated tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) leaves, resulting in destabilization of Fed‐1 mRNA and a differential light/dark accumulation of the mRNA. Insertion of nonsense codons within the Fed‐1 coding sequence disrupts the light regulation of Fed‐1 mRNA abundance.

Computer simulation of interaction of photosystem 1 with plastocyanin and ferredoxin

Biosystems, 2011
We designed 3D multiparticle computer models to simulate diffusion and interactions of spinach plastocyanin and ferredoxin with plant photosystem 1 in a solution. Using these models we studied kinetic characteristics of plastocyanin-photosystem 1 and ferredoxin-photosystem 1 complex formation at a variety of ionic strength values.

Transcriptional regulation of human ferredoxin 1 in ovarian granulosa cells

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2013
Ferredoxin 1 (FDX1; adrenodoxin) is an iron-sulfur protein that is involved in various metabolic processes, including steroid hormone synthesis in mammalian tissues. We investigated the transcriptional regulation of FDX1 in ovarian granulosa cells. Previously, we reported that the NR5A family, including steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1) and liver receptor ...

Dual targeted poplar ferredoxin NADP+ oxidoreductase interacts with hemoglobin 1

Plant Science, 2016
Previous reports have connected non-symbiotic and truncated hemoglobins (Hbs) to metabolism of nitric oxide (NO), an important signalling molecule involved in wood formation. We have studied the capability of poplar (Populus tremula × tremuloides) Hbs PttHb1 and PttTrHb proteins alone or with a flavin-protein reductase to relieve NO cytotoxicity in ...

Purification and characterization of a ferredoxin from Haloarcula japonica strain TR-1

Biometals, 2000
A ferredoxin (Fd) was purified from the extremely halophilic archaeon, Haloarcula japonica strain TR-1, to electrophoretic homogeneity. The apparent molecular weight (Mr) of the Fd was estimated to be 24,000 on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

A COMBINED PROCEDURE FOR PREPARATION OP PLASTOCYANIN, FERREDOXIN AND CF1

Preparative Biochemistry, 1975
Homogeneous preparations of ferredoxin, plastocyanin, and chloroplast coupling factor (CF1) have been isolated from spinach by a combined procedure in which supernatants from preparation of chloroplasts are used for isolation of ferredoxin and the chloroplasts serve as the source of plastocyanin.

Copper induces neuron‐sparing, ferredoxin 1‐independent astrocyte toxicity mediated by oxidative stress

Journal of Neurochemistry, 2023
AbstractCopper is an essential enzyme cofactor in oxidative metabolism, anti‐oxidant defenses, and neurotransmitter synthesis. However, intracellular copper, when improperly buffered, can also lead to cell death. Given the growing interest in the use of copper in the presence of the ionophore elesclomol (CuES) for the treatment of gliomas, we ...

Ferredoxin 1-like maintains iron homeostasis and hepatoma cell survival

Free Radical Biology and Medicine
Ferredoxin 1-like (FDX1L) is a pivotal component of the core iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster assembly machinery. However, the role of FDX1L in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been thoroughly elucidated. In this study, we conducted genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screenings and identified FDX1L as an essential gene for hepatoma cell survival.

The emerging role of ferredoxin 1 in cancer: Insights into cuproptosis and therapeutic innovation

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Ferredoxin 1 (FDX1), a key component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, is crucial in the copper-mediated cell death pathway known as cuproptosis. Located at the q22.3 locus on chromosome 11, FDX1 acts as a reductase and is integral to cellular redox reactions and energy metabolism.

Primary leaf‐type ferredoxin 1 participates in photosynthetic electron transport and carbon assimilation in rice

The Plant Journal, 2020
SUMMARYFerredoxins (Fds) play a crucial role in photosynthesis by regulating the distribution of electrons to downstream enzymes. Multiple Fd genes have been annotated in the Oryza sativa L. (rice) genome; however, their specific functions are not well understood. Here, we report the functional characterization of rice Fd1.
