Rare Case of Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion Acardius Acephalus Subtype Seen in a Community-Based Hospital

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Perinatology Reports
Background TRAP sequence occurs in monochorionic pregnancies consisting of one normal fetus and a non-viable fetus. The pump twin has an increased risk of developing high-output cardiac failure.

Moderate alcohol exposure during the rat equivalent to the third trimester of human pregnancy alters dopamine regulation of GABAA receptor-mediated transmission in the basolateral amygdala

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2014
Fetal ethanol (EtOH) exposure leads to a range of neurobehavioral alterations, including deficits in emotional processing. The basolateral amygdala (BLA) plays a critical role in modulating emotional processing, in part, via dopamine (DA) regulation of ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

In utero exposure to di(n-butyl) phthalate and testicular dysgenesis:comparison of fetal and adult end points and their dose sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: Fetal exposure of male rats to di(n-butyl) phthalate (DBP) induces reproductive disorders similar to those in human testicular dysgenesis syndrome (TDS), including infertility, cryptorchidism, focal "dysgenetic areas," and Sertoli cell-only ...

Fetal Atrial Flutter: Electrophysiology and Associations With Rhythms Involving an Accessory Pathway

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundAtrial flutter (AFl) accounts for up to one third of all fetal tachyarrhythmias and can result in premature delivery, hydrops, and fetal death in 10% of cases; however, the electrophysiology of AFl in utero is virtually unstudied.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Placental transfer of a hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyl and effects on fetal and maternal thyroid hormone homeostasis in the rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Earlier studies at our laboratory indicated that several hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyls (OH-PCBs) detected in human blood could specifically inhibit thyroxine (T4) transport by competitive binding to the thyroid hormone transport protein ...

Fetal Neurology: The Role of Fetal Stress

open access: yesDonald School Journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2015
ABSTRACTFetal development and growth, as well as the timing of birth is influenced by the intrauterine environment. Many environmental factors causing the fetal stress can interfere with fetal development and leave long-term and profound consequences on health. Fetal glucocorticoid overexposure has primarily significant consequences for the development

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Abruptio placentae during fetal myelomeningocele repair

open access: yes, 2015
Myelomeningocele (MM) is a congenital neural tube defect with serious consequences, including hydrocephaly. An important hope for intrauterine repair is that hydrocephaly may be prevented by reversing the Arnold-Chiari malformation. Three medical centers
