SERUM GLYCOSYLATED PROTEINS (GP): PREDICTORS OF MATERNAL-FETAL HYPERGLYCEMIA AND FETAL B.WT.? [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1987
The usefulness of serum GP in detection of subtle hyperglycemia was studied in 3 groups of mother/infant pairs: 20 normal/20 AGA(GrI): 20 normal/20 MACRO, > 4.0kg (GrIII) and 9 diabetic mothers/10 neonates (GrIII). Two diabetics were class A, 4 class B and 3 class C. Maternal serum HbA1c and GP and cord GP were measured at delivery.

TRPV6 and Calbindin-D9k-expression and localization in the bovine uterus and placenta during pregnancy

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2012
Background Transient receptor potential channel type 6 (TRPV6) and Calbindin-D9k (CaBP-9k) are involved in the active calcium (Ca2+) transport mechanism in many tissues including placenta and uterus, suggesting a role in the establishment and maintenance

Functional complexity of the axonal growth cone: a proteomic analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The growth cone, the tip of the emerging neurite, plays a crucial role in establishing the wiring of the developing nervous system. We performed an extensive proteomic analysis of axonal growth cones isolated from the brains of fetal Sprague-Dawley rats.

Unique metabolism and protein expression signature in human decidual NK cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Human decidual natural killer (dNK) cells are a unique type of tissue-resident NK cells at the maternal-fetal interface. dNK cells are likely to have pivotal roles during pregnancy, including in maternal-fetal immune tolerance, trophoblast invasion, and ...

Apoptosis in mouse fetal and neonatal oocytes during meiotic prophase one [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background The vast majority of oocytes formed in the fetal ovary do not survive beyond birth. Possible reasons for their loss include the elimination of non-viable genetic constitutions arising through meiosis, however, the ...

S‐Nitrosoglutathione Reductase Deficiency Causes Aberrant Placental S‐Nitrosylation and Preeclampsia

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2022
Background Preeclampsia, a leading cause of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity, is characterized by an increase in S‐nitrosylated proteins and reactive oxygen species, suggesting a pathophysiologic role for dysregulation in nitrosylation and ...

Differential effects of transforming growth factor-beta on the synthesis of extracellular matrix proteins by normal fetal rat calvarial bone cell populations

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 1988
To determine the effects of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) on the different cell types that exist in bone, cell populations (I- IV), progressively enriched in osteoblastic cells relative to fibroblastic cells, were prepared from fetal rat ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only
