Highly Versatile Real‐Time Optical Noise Filtering Through Temporal Cloaking

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Conventional bandpass filtering strategies may be insufficient for recovering optical waveforms under extremely noisy conditions. We demonstrate a temporal‐cloaking denoising strategy enabled by the temporal Talbot effect, which concentrates the coherent signal of interest into short temporal slots while broadband noise remains temporally spread.

Broadband Parametric Amplification in AlGaAs‐on‐Insulator Nanowaveguides

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Harnessing the exceptional nonlinearity of AlGaAs‐on‐insulator nanowaveguides, four‐wave‐mixing parametric amplification achieves a record net on‐chip gain of 56 dB and a gain bandwidth exceeding 415 nm at telecom wavelengths. These results establish AlGaAsOI as a powerful platform for compact, high‐performance integrated nonlinear optical ...

Multi-element fiber technology for space-division multiplexing applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel technological approach to space division multiplexing (SDM) based on the use of multiple individual fibers embedded in a common polymer coating material is presented, which is referred to as Multi-Element Fiber (MEF).

Optical‐to‐Microcomb Stability Transfer for Ultrastable Timing and Microwave/Millimeter‐Wave Generation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.

Amplification of 12 OAM Modes in an air-core erbium doped fiber

open access: yes, 2015
We theoretically propose an air-core erbium doped fiber amplifier capable of providing relatively uniform gain for 12 orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes (|L| = 5, 6 and 7, where |L| is the OAM mode order) over the C-band.

Shear Wave Elastography to Assess Respiratory Muscle Function in Congenital Myopathies

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Aims Respiratory muscle dysfunction is prevalent in congenital myopathies and often leads to respiratory failure. Ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) measures tissue elasticity and has been proposed as an alternative to invasive measures of respiratory muscle contractility.

Wideband saturable absorption in few-layer molybdenum diselenide (MoSe₂) for Q-switching Yb-, Er- and Tm-doped fiber lasers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We fabricate a free-standing molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) saturable absorber by embedding liquid-phase exfoliated few-layer MoSe2 flakes into a polymer film.

Spectroscopic Signatures of Doping in Thin Films of Semiconducting Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review presents an overview of the spectroscopic changes of semiconducting single‐walled carbon nanotubes upon chemical, electrochemical or electrostatic doping. The presence of holes or electrons directly affects visible to far‐infrared absorption, near‐infrared fluorescence and electroluminescence as well as Raman spectra, which enables in‐situ ...

Quantum memory for light: large efficiency at telecom wavelength

open access: yes, 2013
We implement the ROSE protocol in an erbium doped solid, compatible with the telecom range. The ROSE scheme is an adaptation of the standard 2-pulse photon echo to make it suitable for a quantum memory.
