Optical spectral pulse shaping by combining two oppositely chirped fiber Bragg grating [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
In this letter we present a new technique for pulse shaping. The desired pulse is shaped by two apodized chirped fiber Bragg gratings which dispersions are adjusted to be cancelled. This technique exploits the well-known property of linearly-chirped gratings, in which the apodization (amplitude) grating profile maps its spectral response.

Polarization Management on Anisotropic Thin‐Film Lithium Niobate Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This review focuses on x‐cut thin‐film lithium niobate (TFLN), exploring strategies to mitigate anisotropy and mode hybridization. It covers polarization beam splitters, rotators, splitter‐rotators, polarizers, and polarization‐insensitive components. Key applications include polarization‐division multiplexing, polarization‐insensitive modulation, and ...

Fabrication and Characterization of On-Chip Integrated Silicon Photonic Bragg Grating and Photonic Crystal Cavity Thermometers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We report on the fabrication and characterization of photonic-based nanothermometers, a silicon photonic Bragg grating and photonic crystal cavity. When cladded with silicon dioxide layer the sensors have at least eight times better sensitivity compared to the sensitivity of conventional fiber Bragg grating sensors.

Klein tunneling of light in fiber Bragg gratings [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Res. Int. 2010, 645106 (2010), 2010
A photonic analogue of Klein tunneling (KT), i.e. of the exotic property of relativistic electrons to pass a large repulsive and sharp potential step, is proposed for pulse propagation in a nonuniform fiber Bragg grating with an embedded chirped region.

Enhanced Two‐Photon Excited Emission of Quantum Emitters by Colloidal Plasmonic Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Colloidal plasmonic metasurfaces presenting a completely exposed optical cavity are fabricated via templated self‐assembling silver nanoparticles into squared arrays on top of a thin film of CdSe/ZnS quantum dots. The resulting structure promotes the enhancement of the two‐photon absorption and emission processes of the quantum emitter by exploiting ...

A Magnetostrictive Composite-Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2010
This paper presents a light and compact optical fiber Bragg Grating sensor for DC and AC magnetic field measurements. The fiber is coated by a thick layer of a magnetostrictive composite consisting of particles of Terfenol-D dispersed in a polymeric matrix.

Fully Printed Variable Orifice Flowmeter with Built‐In Temperature Compensation for Application in Mechanical Ventilation

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing, specifically fused deposition modeling, offers an innovative approach to creating 3D‐printed variable orifice flowmeters with integrated temperature compensation. Using carbon‐black TPU, the primary component (a variable orifice) and the secondary element (a diaphragm pressure sensor) are fabricated.
