Cotton Quality and Fiber Properties
Textile Research Journal, 1954A serious problem in single-fiber testing is the preparation of a homogeneous sample from which fibers may be selected in a random manner. Mechanical blenders, of the type developed for cotton by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, greatly improve the homogeneity of a bulk fiber sample.

Cotton Quality and Fiber Properties
Textile Research Journal, 1956Several years ago "irrigated cottons" were discounted under comparable grades and staples of raingrown cottons because of the widespread belief that the processing characteristics of the irrigated cottons were inferior to the normal raingrown cottons.

Fiber Quality Analysis: OpTest Fiber Quality Analyzer versus L&W Fiber Tester
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2011In this paper, the measurements from OpTest FQA (fiber quality analyzer) and L&W Fiber Tester were compared on 95 TMP (thermomechanical pulp) samples from a TMP-based newsprint mill in Eastern Cana...

Quality of chemically modified hemp fibers
Bioresource Technology, 2008Hemp fibers are very interesting natural material for textile and technical applications now. Applying hemp fibers to the apparel sector requires improved quality fibers. In this paper, hemp fibers were modified with sodium hydroxide solutions (5% and 18% w/v), at room and boiling temperature, for different periods of time, and both under tension and ...

Small fibers, large impact: Quality of life in small‐fiber neuropathy
Muscle & Nerve, 2013ABSTRACTIntroduction: The impact of small‐fiber neuropathy (SFN) on patients' quality of life (QOL) has not been studied extensively. Our aim was to determine the impact of SFN on QOL and examine possible determinants. Methods: We examined a total of 265 patients diagnosed with SFN.

Harvesting to Optimize Fiber Quality
2010 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 20 - June 23, 2010, 2010Production conditions typical to the Texas High Plains region can produce cotton crops with high short fiber and nep content, both of which have a detrimental impact on ring spinning performance. Since Texas now produces over 50% of the US cotton crop annually, it is critical that production and processing research focuses on finding ways to maximize ...

The Quality of Fiber Count Data
Applied Industrial Hygiene, 1989Abstract Optical fiber counts are used to determine asbestos exposure, so it is important to assess, control, and document the quality of those counts. These functions are the responsibility of the quality assurance (QA) coordinator in each laboratory.

Comparison of the beam quality in fiber amplifier employing tapered fiber and uniform fiber
International Photonics and OptoElectronics Meeting 2019 (OFDA, OEDI, ISST, PE, LST, TSA), 2019Simulation results of laser beam quality in fiber amplifier show that the output laser beam quality of the tapered fiber is much better than that of the uniform fiber amplifier under the same conditions.

Fiber Fabrication and High-Quality Glasses for Gain Fibers
2013Glass optical fibers are almost always made from silica; however, some other materials, such as fluorozirconate, fluoroaluminate, and chalcogenide glasses, are used for longer-wavelength infrared applications. Most glasses demonstrate a refractive index of about 1.5. Typically, the difference between core and cladding is less than 1 %.
