The role of fibroblast growth factor 2 in drug addiction

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2018
AbstractFibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) is a member of the FGF‐family, which consists of 22 members, with four known FGF receptors (five in humans). Over the last 30 years, FGF2 has been extensively studied for its role in cell proliferation, differentiation, growth, survival and angiogenesis during development, as well as for its role in adult ...

Characterization of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 Binding to Ribosomes

Growth Factors, 1996
We have examined the binding of FGF-2 to ribosomes and have found that in NIH 3T3 cells that synthesize high amounts of all FGF-2 forms, both 18 kDa and HMW forms of FGF-2 bind to ribosomes. Ribosomes purified from these cells were treated with RNase or puromycin to identify the binding site of FGF-2 on the ribosome.

Mammalian chondrocytes expanded in the presence of fibroblast growth factor 2 maintain the ability to differentiate and regenerate three-dimensional cartilaginous tissue.

Experimental Cell Research, 1999
The differentiated phenotype of chondrocytes from hyaline cartilage is gradually lost during expansion in monolayers. Chondrocytes can reexpress their differentiated phenotype by transfer into an environment that prevents cell flattening, but serially ...

Fibroblast growth factor-2, bone homeostasis and fracture repair.

Current pharmaceutical design, 2013
There remains a great need to develop therapeutic agents to treat critical size defects and non-union fractures and one of the potential agents is recombinant human fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2).

The role of fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) in hematopoiesis

Progress in Growth Factor Research, 1995
Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or FGF-2) is an angiogenic and pleiotropic growth factor involved in the proliferation and differentiation of numerous cell types. It is expressed mostly in tissues of mesoderm and neuroectoderm origin, and is thought to play an important role in the mesoderm induction.

Fibroblast growth factor‐2 deficiency causes defects in adult hippocampal neurogenesis, which are not rescued by exogenous fibroblast growth factor‐2

Journal of Neuroscience Research, 2011
AbstractNeurogenesis within the adult brain is restricted to selected areas, one of which is the dentate gyrus (DG). Several growth factors have been reported to affect neurogenesis in the adult DG. However, a role of fibroblast growth factor‐2 (FGF‐2) in adult hippocampal neurogenesis has not been firmly established.

Expression of fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 by fibroblast growth factor 2 in cultured chick embryo chondrocytes

Cell Biology International, 2005
Although fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) and fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) both inhibit longitudinal bone growth, little is known about the relationship between FGF2 and FGFR3. Accordingly, the current study examined the expression of FGFR3 mRNA after the administration of FGF2 using cultured chondrocytes from day 17 chick embryos to ...

Modulation of proliferation and differentiation of human bone marrow stromal cells by fibroblast growth factor 2: potential implications for tissue engineering of tendons and ligaments.

Tissue engineering, 2005
Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) play a central role in the repair and regeneration of mesenchymal tissues. For tissue engineering of ligaments and tendons, both stimulation of cell proliferation and differentiation with increased expression of ...

Uterine fibroblast growth factor-2 and embryonic fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 at the beginning of gastrulation in the rabbit

Anatomy and Embryology, 1996
Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) induces gastrulation of rabbit blastocysts in vitro and is present in the uterine secretion at day 6 after mating. The following study was made in order to show if changes in the uterine FGF-2 concentration or in the FGF receptor concentration of the embryonic tissues point to a regulation of this event. By the use of

The Unconventional Secretory Machinery of Fibroblast Growth Factor 2

Traffic, 2011
Unconventional secretory proteins represent a subpopulation of extracellular factors that are exported from eukaryotic cells by mechanisms that do not depend on the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi complex. Various pathways have been implicated in unconventional secretion including those involving intracellular membrane‐bound intermediates and ...
