Fibroblast growth factor‐derived peptides: functional agonists of the fibroblast growth factor receptor

Journal of Neurochemistry, 2007
AbstractA series of peptides, termed dekafins, were derived from the β10–β11 loop regions of fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 17. The dekafins share a homologous amino acid sequence similar to a sequence in the first fibronectin type III module of the neural cell adhesion molecule. All dekafins were shown by surface plasmon

Fibroblast Growth Factors and Neuroprotection

2003
Several members of the FGF family, in particular FGF2, are intimately involved in neuronal protection and repair after ischemic, metabolic or traumatic brain injury. Expression of Fgf2 mRNA and protein is strongly upregulated after neuronal damage, with glial cells as the predominant source.

Basic fibroblast growth factor and fibroblast growth factor receptors in adult olfactory epithelium

Brain Research, 2001
Basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2) stimulates proliferation of the globose basal cells, the neuronal precursor in the olfactory epithelium. The present study investigates the expression of basic fibroblast growth factor and fibroblast growth factor receptors in the adult olfactory epithelium.

FIBROBLAST GROWTH FACTOR 1 AND FIBROBLAST GROWTH FACTOR 2 IMMUNOREACTIVITY IN GASTROINTESTINAL TUMOURS

The Journal of Pathology, 1997
Acidic and basic fibroblast growth factors (FGF-1 and FGF-2) are mitogenic polypeptides that may play a role in autocrine and paracrine growth control of malignant tumours. We have examined the expression of FGF-1 and FGF-2 in a series of 41 colorectal tumours (24 adenomas, 17 adenocarcinomas) and 50 gastric adenocarcinomas (23 intestinal, 27 diffuse),

Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2012
Fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) play an important role in embryonic development, angiogenesis, wound healing, cell proliferation and differentiation. The fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) isoforms have been under intense scrutiny for effective anticancer drug candidates.

Expression of acidic fibroblast growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor in nasal polyps

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2006
Up-regulated expression of acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in nasal polyps may be related to epithelial proliferation and neoangiogenesis associated with nasal polyp growth.aFGF and bFGF are polypeptides that effect mitogenesis, neoangiogenesis and tissue repair.

Thrombin inactivates acidic fibroblast growth factor but not basic fibroblast growth factor

Biochemistry, 1988
Incubation of bovine brain derived acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) with bovine or human thrombin, 0.5 NIH unit/mL, for 24 h at 37 degrees C results in cleavage of the mitogen, generating a 14-kilodalton fragment which has significantly reduced affinity for immobilized heparin as compared to aFGF, and is at least 50-fold less potent at ...

Control of Bone Growth by Fibroblast Growth Factors

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1999
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and their receptors (FGFRs) negatively regulate longitudinal bone growth. Activating FGFR3 mutations impair growth, causing human skeletal dysplasias, whereas inactivating mutations stimulate growth. Systemic administration of FGF-2 to mice stimulates bone growth at low doses but inhibits growth at high doses.

Determination of fibroblast growth factor 23

Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2009
Background Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) is a recently discovered hormone, which plays a key role in phosphate regulation. To investigate whether FGF-23 can be determined reliably, we validated the three available FGF-23 assays. Methods Currently, two intact FGF-23 assays (Kainos; Immutopics) and one C-terminal FGF-23 assay (Immutopics) are ...

Effects of acidic and basic fibroblast growth factors on osteoblastic cells.

Connective Tissue Research, 1989
Acidic (a) and basic (b) fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are two related mitogenic and angiogenic factors. They are multifunctional in that they can affect proliferation and induce or delay differentiation.
