Gigantic Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans of the Scalp with Fibrosarcomatous Transformation

open access: yesJournal of Pathology Research Reviews & Reports, 2020
Here we are reporting this rare and unfortunate presentation of Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) of the scalp. The patient was a 30 years old male from a remote area, with history of 4 previous surgical interventions. He was transferred directly to our surgical ICU with septicemia; anuria; severe anemia; and respiratory failure.

Alteration of PDGFRβ-Akt-mTOR pathway signaling in fibrosarcomatous transformation of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Pathology, 2017
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a cutaneous mesenchymal tumor of intermediate malignancy and fibroblastic/myofibroblastic differentiation. Fibrosarcomatous (FS) component is a high-grade component of DFSP. The detailed oncogenic difference between DFSP and FS components is not clear.

Metastatic Fibrosarcomatous Transformation of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans With Lung Metastasis: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesCureus
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a low- to intermediate-grade dermal soft tissue malignant tumor (sarcoma) with a high local recurrence rate but low metastatic potential. DFSP is characterized by uniform spindle cell fascicles arranged classically in a storiform pattern and by CD34 immunoreactivity. On gross examination, DFSP usually manifests

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans with lung metastasis requiring pneumonectomy

open access: yesRare Tumors, 2015
We report the case of a young man diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans lung metastases seven years after primary tumor resection. Notably, no previous local recurrences had been observed.

Huge Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans Mimicking a Breast Malignant Tumor with Abscess

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Practice, 2014
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is an uncommon skin cancer that most commonly occurs on the trunk and extremities. DFSP of the breast has rarely been reported, and then is almost always of small size.

Malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast with liposarcomatous differentiation: A case report with imaging findings

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2019
Phyllodes tumors are rare neoplasms that account for 2.5% of all fibroepithelial lesions, and 10%-20% exhibit malignant transformation. Malignant transformation often occurs in the form of stroma, and usually shows fibrosarcomatous differentiation ...

Late Transformation of a Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans Neck Sarcoma to a Neoplasm With Fibrosarcomatous Elements: Lessons Learned

open access: yesCureus, 2022
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a low-grade soft tissue sarcoma not often related to the head and neck area. Distant metastases are not often recorded. Wide surgical excision is considered the most appropriate treatment modality. In cases of insufficient or positive surgical margins, the role of adjuvant radiation therapy or targeted therapy might ...

Gains of COL1A1-PDGFB genomic copies occur in fibrosarcomatous transformation of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2006
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a superficial low-grade sarcoma that rarely evolves into a high-grade fibrosarcoma. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is genetically characterized by the unbalanced chromosomal t(17;22)(q21;q13), usually in the form of a supernumerary ring chromosome.
