Field-aligned currents observed by the OGO 5 and Triad satellites [PDF]

open access: yes
The existence of field-aligned currents in the polar cap boundary layer as a permanent feature of the magnetosphere is investigated. Magnetic field observations from Triad at 800 km altitude and from OGO 5 in the high-altitude magnetosphere are examined.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Field-aligned currents near the magnetosphere boundary [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
This paper reviews present thinking about the structure of magnetospheric boundary layers and their roles in the generation of the field-aligned currents that are observed in the polar regions. A principal effect of the momentum loss by magnetosheath plasma to the magnetosphere boundary regions just within the magnetopause, whether it be by a diffusive

Polarization of the auroral electrojet [PDF]

open access: yes
Precipitation from the inner edge of the electron plasma sheet creates a density maximum in the auroral oval ionosphere, which in turn leads to Hall and Pedersen conductance maxima.

Origin of electron cyclotron maser-induced radio emissions at ultra-cool dwarfs: magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling currents

open access: yes, 2012
A number of ultra-cool dwarfs emit circularly polarised radio waves generated by the electron cyclotron maser instability. In the solar system such radio is emitted from regions of strong auroral magnetic field-aligned currents.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Interplanetary Magnetic Field Bx Effect on Field-Aligned Currents in Different Local Times

open access: yesRemote Sensing
This study explores the impact of the radial interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) on the strength and latitude of peak field-aligned currents (FACs). FACs are derived through vector magnetic field observations of the Swarm satellite mission.

Photospheric Sources of Magnetic Field Aligned Currents [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1983
Possible (small-scale) photospheric sources of coronal magnetic field aligned currents are discussed. Such currents are equivalent to local (small-scale) twists of the coronal magnetic field, and may cause field topologies that are (MHD or resistively) unstable, and thus contribute to the (small-scale) coronal activity. One electro-motive force ...

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...
