Human and computational models of atopic dermatitis:A review and perspectives by an expert panel of the International Eczema Council [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent disease worldwide and is associated with systemic comorbidities representing a significant burden on patients, their families, and society. Therapeutic options for AD remain limited, in part because of a lack of well-

Exploring Multi‐Organ Crosstalk via the TissUse HUMIMIC Chip System: Lessons Learnt So Far

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Three‐dimensional (3D) in vitro cell culture models have revolutionized biomedical research by mimicking the complex 3D in vivo environment in the human body. Different types of 3D models have been established, including heterotypic systems such as, organ‐on‐a‐chips which have been further developed into multiorgan‐on‐chip systems that ...

Citrullination – small change with a great consequence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Citrullination is one of the possible post-translational modifications of proteins. It is based on a conversion of L-arginine residue (L-Arg) to L-citrulline residue (L-Cit). The reaction is catalyzed by peptidylarginine deiminases (PAD). The change of L-

Redefining the Skin Barrier: A Microbiome‐Integrated Multilayered Defense Model

open access: yesBarrier Immunity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The skin constitutes a dynamic interface orchestrating a sophisticated multilayered defense system comprising physical, chemical, immune, and microbial barriers. This review synthesizes current understanding of the structural and functional integration of these barriers, emphasizing their synergistic interactions in maintaining cutaneous ...

Filaggrin Null Alleles Are Not Associated with Psoriasis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 2007
Psoriasis is a common skin disease with an etiology consistent with a multifactorial trait. Several psoriasis susceptibility loci are known, a number of which are also implicated in a predisposition to atopic dermatitis (AD), including the epidermal differentiation complex on chromosome 1q21. It has recently been shown in several replicate studies that

The microbiome in patients with atopic dermatitis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
As an interface with the environment, the skin is a complex ecosystem colonized by many microorganisms that coexist in an established balance. The cutaneous microbiome inhibits colonization with pathogens, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and is a crucial ...

Salivary cytokine panel indicative of non-small cell lung cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objective To develop a combinatorial panel of salivary cytokines that manifests the presence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that will eventually improve prognosis by facilitating the early diagnosis and management of this common cancer. Methods We

Filaggrin sequencing and bioinformatics tools

open access: yesArchives of Dermatological Research, 2019
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common illness that most commonly originates in childhood, but can be seen in all ages. Filaggrin (FLG) loss of function variants have been associated with the onset and severity of atopic dermatitis and are the most common genetic association with AD. Previous studies have shown variability in the frequency of FLG variants.

The role of filaggrin mutations leading to a decrease in the amount of protein in the development of atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma in children

open access: yesСибирский научный медицинский журнал, 2021
Atopic diseases remain one of the most common childhood diseases. At the beginning of life, atopic dermatitis (AD) occurs, and only then bronchial asthma (BA).

Atopic Dermatitis in Childhood and Biomarkers of Male Reproductive Health: A Danish National Birth Cohort Study

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
This study found no indication of an adverse effect of childhood atopic dermatitis on biomarkers of male reproductive health. On the contrary, we observed some indications of slightly higher sperm concentration and lower follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
