Neurotrophic extracellular matrix proteins promote neuronal and iPSC astrocyte progenitor cell‐ and nano‐scale process extension for neural repair applications

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 585-601, April 2025.
The extracellular matrix plays a critical role in modulating cell behaviour in the central nervous system influencing neural cell morphology and growth. However, a better understanding of the impact of individual matrix proteins on both neurons and astrocytes is critical for advancing the development of matrix‐based neural repair strategies.

Investigating filopodia formation on fibronectin and cadherin substrates

open access: yes, 2023
Cancer metastasis involves cancer cells migrating from primary tumours to distant organs and tissues. Filopodia, slender finger-like protrusions, play a pivotal role in cell migration and interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM) and neighboring ...

Fluorescent Protein-Tagged Sindbis Virus E2 Glycoprotein Allows Single Particle Analysis of Virus Budding from Live Cells

open access: yesViruses, 2015
Sindbis virus (SINV) is an enveloped, mosquito-borne alphavirus. Here we generated and characterized a fluorescent protein-tagged (FP-tagged) SINV and found that the presence of the FP-tag (mCherry) affected glycoprotein transport to the plasma membrane ...

Crawling under the radar: Two novel Paulinella species expand knowledge about the ecology and evolution of a primary plastid‐containing amoeba lineage

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract The genus Paulinella represents a rare, independent case of primary endosymbiosis, providing a unique system to study the early stages of organelle evolution. Here, we expand current understanding of primary plastid endosymbiosis through the discovery and characterization of two novel photosynthetic amoebae, Paulinella marae sp. nov.

Synaptogenesis Via Dendritic Filopodia in Developing Hippocampal Area CA1

open access: yes, 1998
To determine the role of dendritic filopodia in the genesis of excitatory synaptic contacts and dendritic spines in hippocampal area CA1, serial section electron microscopy and three-dimensional analysis of 16 volumes of neuropil from nine male rat pups,

Cholesterol Depletion Regulates Axonal Growth and Enhances Central and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Axonal growth during normal development and axonal regeneration rely on the action of many receptor signaling systems and complexes, most of them located in specialized raft membrane microdomains with a precise lipid composition.

Comparative analysis of immune responses in ovipositing and non‐ovipositing females of European earwig Analyse comparative de la réponse immunitaire avant et après la ponte chez le forficule européen

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
Oviposition and care decrease the total haemocyte concentration. Oviposition and care affect haemocyte type proportions. Serratia marcescens challenge does not affect the immune cell parameters. Abstract Reproduction and immunity are essential biological processes that compete for resources and energy.

The Eps8/IRSp53/VASP network differentially controls actin capping and bundling in filopodia formation.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2011
There is a body of literature that describes the geometry and the physics of filopodia using either stochastic models or partial differential equations and elasticity and coarse-grained theory.

Dose‐dependent effects of photobiomodulation on stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth cultured on polylactic acid films: An in vitro study

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
660‐nm photobiomodulation increased metabolic activity, modulated cell cycle distribution, and increased apparent surface coverage in dental stem cells cultured on polylactic acid films, with 4 J/cm2 producing the most consistent response and a greater G2/M fraction than 1 J/cm2.

Filopodia: The Cellular Quills of Hedgehog Signaling? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Reporting in Nature, Sanders et al. (2013) implicate filopodial projections in Sonic hedgehog (Shh) patterning of the limb. Actin-based filopodia transport Shh from producing cells, while filopodia of responding cells bear Cdon and Boc: coreceptors in ...
